Okay, let’s look at the architecture: from the surface down to full depth
A telescopic casing string for every size, with a hole inside the hole. This graphic (the actual tubing strings stacked on site compares the full-hole build, from the largest surface casing to the smallest TD casing.
String size / internal lines and hole depth:
🔵30-inch surface casing string — total length ~50
meters
Provides surface-hole protection, gives initial support, and then the hole is brought back up to surface.
🟣13 3/8-inch casing string - total length ~1,600
meters
Cements the first hole in the deeper problem zones without reconnecting internal lines to surface.
🔷5-inch surface casing string — total length ~3,800
meters
Cements the first hole at full depth.
🟫2 7/8-inch casing string - total length ~4,200
meters
Cements the first hole at full depth.
🟫2 7/8-inch casing string — to TD ~4,200 meters
Cements the full hole at full depth, from the largest surface casing to the smallest TD casing.

WHEN THE WEATHER TAKES CONTROL OF THE OILFIELD! 🌪️🛢️

Oilfield operations face more than mechanical and technical challenges. Sudden dust storms and powerful winds can turn a working location into a high-risk environment within seconds.

As visibility drops and wind speeds increase, crews must respond quickly to protect personnel, equipment, and ongoing operations.

⚠️ Key Safety Priorities:

* Suspend Critical Operations: Stop lifting and other wind-sensitive activities when conditions exceed safe operating limits.
* Secure Equipment: Prevent loose materials, tools, and unsecured loads from becoming airborne hazards.
* Protect Personnel: Move crews to designated safe shelters and maintain communication.
* Monitor Weather: Track changing conditions and resume operations only after safety assessments.

In the oilfield, experience and preparation matter, but Mother Nature always has the final word.

💬 Have you ever experienced a dust storm like this while working on a rig?

AUTOMATED TUBULAR MAKEUP: PRECISION, CONTROL & CONNECTION INTEGRITY

Modern tubular running operations combine hydraulic power, mechanized handling, and computerized monitoring to improve connection quality and rig floor safety.

The operation shows a manipulator-mounted hydraulic power tong positioning around the tubular at the well center, with an operator managing the process through a control station.

🔧 How the Technology Works:

🔹 Hydraulic Power Tong: Grips and rotates tubular connections, applying controlled makeup torque.

🔹 Mechanized Manipulator Arm: Positions the tong accurately while reducing manual handling and exposure to pinch points.

🔹 Torque-Turn Monitoring: Automated evaluation systems, such as Weatherford’s VERO®, can analyze connection makeup against manufacturer specifications, helping detect abnormal torque or rotation signatures.

🔹 Remote Operation: Allows personnel to control equipment from a safer position, reducing exposure to high-torque operations.

⚠️ Connection Integrity Matters: Proper alignment, controlled makeup speed, verified torque, and compliance with thread manufacturer specifications are essential to reducing connection damage and downhole integrity risks.

From the rig floor to total depth, precision at every connection makes a difference.

💬 Oilfield professionals: Have you worked with automated power tongs and computerized torque-turn monitoring?

What is viscosity? And how is it measured?
The • is the internal fluid resistance to flow. The easy and accessible means of measuring viscosity at well sites that enable workers on sites to measure viscosity consists of a Marsh Funnel and a Measuring Cup.
The measurement method is by filling the funnel to the level of the sieve (cc 1500) and observing the time of the descent of one liter of water in seconds. The number of seconds is indicated by the viscosity and the viscosity of the water (28 seconds).
As for the method of measuring the viscosity, which
depends on knowing the reason for the high or low viscosity, on which the drilling fluids are treated, it is using the (Fann V-G meter), and through which you can know the plastic viscosity (P.V) and the Yield Point (YP).
Put the clay in a bowl to a certain extent and immerse the rotating part of the device in the clay to a certain mark and then run the device at the speed of (600 cycles / min) and take the reading (0600) and then convert the speed on (300 cycles / min) and take the reading (0300) and the calculations are as follows:
Plastic Viscosity (P.V.) = 0600 - 300 (in centipoises)
Apparent Viscosity (A.V.) = 0600 / 2 (in centipoises)
Yield Point (Y.P.) = D300 - P.V. (in lb / 100 ft2)Plastic Viscosity (P.V).
..... It is the viscosity resulting from friction between clay molecules and water molecules with solids molecules, water molecules with each other, or solids molecules with each other.
The high viscosity of plastics means the high percentage of solids, so when the viscosity of the apparent clay is high due to the high viscosity of plastics, the treatment of the clay is by trying to reduce the percentage of solids, by operating solids separation devices. It must be with high efficiency, namely, vibrating sieve, sand insulator, etc., or by diluting the clay with new clay. by @drilling_namibia

SAME INDUSTRY, DIFFERENT SEASONS! 🛢️

Somewhere, oilfield crews are working under the blazing sun, battling extreme heat and dust. Somewhere else, winter has already taken over, covering drilling rigs in snow and ice.

Different climates, same mission: keeping operations running safely and efficiently.

Freezing temperatures bring additional challenges, from icy rig floors and frozen equipment to hydraulic system performance and difficult working conditions. Every task demands extra preparation, attention, and teamwork.

Whether it’s +100°F or below freezing, oilfield workers know one thing: the weather changes, but the job still needs to get done. 💪

🌎 Where are you working today, sunshine or snow?

Retrievable stock runs in the hole near the bottom.
The whip’s direction is checked by a single shot, and the whip’s face is directed in the desired direction.
The tool is then placed at the bottom. Depending on the type of recoverable stock, it may be necessary to drop a ball below the drill chain to divert the flow from the bottom of the stock to the drill piece.
The weight is applied to the assembly, and the pin holding the stock is clipped into place allowing the bit to travel below the stock face.
The bit is rotated between 40 and 60 rpm with low weights (drill weight calculations) while drilling off the stock.
Too much weight can cause bit binding and stock rotation.
Heavy vibrations of the kelly will indicate excess weight on the bit.
When the bit is one foot below the toe of the stock, weight can be added gradually.
puncture approximately 15 to 20 feet of hole before retrieving stock.
The collar at the top of the whip has a smaller inner diameter than the cut.
When the bit is pulled to the hoop at the top of the whip, the bit pulls stock out of the hole. After digging a few feet with the agile assembly and diverting course deflection, the standard directional drill assembly (RSS assembly - mud engine with bent submarine) is triggered and the drilling resumes.
