It’s a really strange time to be launching a small business right now.

On one hand, I’m outraged by what’s happening in this country. To our neighbors. To innocent people. And to the social construct we’ve assigned to the word immigrant.

Besides: aren’t we all just people living together, anyway?
Neighbors and friends.
Relatives and strangers.
Humans.

And on the other hand, I’m over here trying to build something, and sometimes that feels… awkward. Or silly. Like, “hey, please support this thing I’m making,”while everything else feels so heavy.

Especially because, on the surface, what I’m selling is electrolytes. Powder. Flavors. Nothing that sounds serious when you zoom out.

But when I think about why I started Ellexir in the first place, it actually feels as timely and as relevant as ever, kinda.

I wanted to represent flavors that aren’t as mainstream… yet. Memories I grew up with. Filipino and other Asian flavors that still get framed as “different” or “niche,” even though they’ve existed since the beginning of time in other parts of the world. Calamansi. Ube. Mango. Guava.

So I keep holding these two thoughts at the same time.

That yes, in the context of what’s happening in the world today, launching a hydration business is small.
And also, it’s not nothing.

Because representation shows up in ordinary places. In everyday products. In things that get taken for granted.

And maybe if more of those things existed… if more cultures were just… represented… there would be more familiarity. More understanding. More room to remember that we’re all just people trying to live next to each other.

I don’t really know what to do with that yet.
I just know that I feel both things at once.
