Brothers,

We’re back with the Jabali Project, a men’s space that builds community, supports mental health, and offers edification through food, conversation, and shared experiences.

Our philosophy for the Jabali Project is strength through unity: when we come together, we can best create the life we aspire to today. If you’re a man who desires community, conversation, or connection, join the Jabali Project, where we intentionally build each other up through accountability and relationships. Will you be there? #grouptherapy #mentalhealthmatters #blackmenbuild #detroitevents #blackpower by @drjay117

We are excited to announce that Black Men Work, in partnership with We The People Action Fund, is launching the Jabali Project pilot program.
We aim to serve black men and boys through regular mental health check-ins. Our goal is to create a more accessible mental health ecosystem.
Join us every fourth Wednesday for these sessions and connect with others in a supportive, informative, and clinical setting led by a licensed professional!
Take a listen to some of the experiences from our last session as well!
Don’t miss out — food will be provided. We look forward to seeing you there! by @drjay117

On March 28th, 2026 we became Mr. & Mrs. Dale. We said our vows amongst a few close family and dear friends. We can’t wait to celebrate with the rest of our community soon 🥂

Heart Centered Connections an Author Talk with Dr. Niki Elliot by @drjay117

Next Friday evening! A much needed conversation on education with Dr. Niki Elliot and Justin Dale, MSW only on IG Live!

Join us for another session of the Jabali Project! We are excited to bring you another compelling and community building conversation!

Come for food, fellowship, and reimagining a new world through conversation and community.

Black men are four times more likely to complete suicide than their white counterparts.

Part of the reason for that disparity is not having access to community and not having a space to express one’s self as a black man.

Sharing our experiences helps to connect us to who we are and who we ought to strive to be.

Tap in and spread the word! Let’s grow the Jabali Project and expand this impact!

June is Men's Mental Health Month, a time to spotlight the importance of creating safe spaces for Black men to decompress, recenter, and heal from pain or pressure. Black men often bear heavy burdens, battling inner wounds and struggles that they conceal behind a smile or a laugh.

The Jabali Project, founded by Black Men Work in partnership with We The People MI, seeks to bridge the gap between Black men and the inner turmoil they face. Its mission is to foster community, empower leadership, advocate for political change, and promote mental health awareness among Black men.

Join us next Wednesday for an inspiring event led by our expert facilitator @justinbanksspeaks and hosted by licensed social worker @drjay117. Food and drinks will be available—so come hungry for connection and conversation!

Will you be there? by @drjay117

I said yes to my best friend ❤️

Special thanks to everyone who came out to make this day special. Shout out to my bestie and sister @nisaaa_v for keeping me preoccupied and thinking we were just going to stop by and look at some flowers 😂

Our next chapter is loading and I couldn’t be more excited !!!!!!🥰❤️💍 by @drjay117

Community healing starts with conversation. 🖤

Jabali Project is building something powerful for Detroit’s Black men and boys through trusted spaces, honest dialogue, and long-term support.

This comprehensive mental health pilot program is designed for Black male youth and adults, creating opportunities to talk openly about mental, emotional, and spiritual wellness through recurring “Barbershop Talk” sessions.

Participants—from middle school age through adulthood—will gather every 4th Wednesday for facilitated discussions, self-reflection, wellness practices, and action planning.

The goal goes beyond support: to build a growing network of trained community leaders and advocates working toward stronger behavioral health resources in Detroit.

If you believe in community care, breaking stigma, and creating healthier futures, this is a conversation worth being part of. ✨

2025 was a year of constant change and realization. I deepened relationships with familiar faces and strengthened new connections with unfamiliar ones.

Over this year, I have stretched myself to discover my purpose and sharpen the vision that has been laid out for me. My focus moving into this new year and season is fostering deeper purpose, deepening relationships, and creating community-centered interventions for Black men. I am closer to these goals than I have ever been.

From speaking engagements to organizing efforts, I have proven to myself that I have yet to reach my highest impact and that more is yet to come. I am looking forward to continuing to connect with others and build bonds that will last a lifetime with people from all walks of life.

Lastly, I am grateful to everyone who has been a part of my life and helped me reach this point. I wouldn’t be here today if it weren’t for my community, my village. ✊🏿🫱🏾‍🫲🏿 by @drjay117
