Hello, I’m Dr. Nylander, but my patients call me Dr. Z!

I’m a Double Board-Certified Family & Obesity Medicine Physician with a passion for helping professionals take charge of their well-being. I earned my medical degree from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and completed my residency at Emory Family Medicine in Atlanta, GA—a city I now proudly call home.

My mission is simple: to make healthcare more personal, proactive, and empowering. I believe that prevention is the foundation of a thriving life, and I guide my patients toward holistic wellness through practical, sustainable strategies that fit their busy lifestyles.

As the founder of Cassia Optimal Health, I’ve built a space where healthcare is approachable, tailored, and rooted in science-backed, patient-centered care. I’m grateful to be recognized among Atlanta’s top doctors—an honor that reflects my commitment to helping patients thrive in every stage of life.

Together, we’ll take simple yet powerful steps to optimize your health—so you can feel your best, now and for years to come.

Trying to lose weight in the age of social media can feel like a full-time job. 😂

One minute it’s cutting carbs, the next it’s intermittent fasting, and somehow there’s always a new detox tea promising to change your life.

But weight management is a lot more nuanced than the latest trend.

Your medical history, metabolism, medications, lifestyle, and individual health goals all matter. And what works for one person may not be the right approach for another.

That’s why obesity medicine is a medical specialty, not just another diet plan.

Before you try the next viral weight-loss hack, consider having a conversation with a physician trained in obesity medicine. 🤎

The scariest part of healthcare? Sometimes, the horror stories are real. 🎃👻

Waiting weeks for an appointment. Rushing through your symptoms. Chasing down lab results. Trying to connect the dots between specialists on your own.

Somehow, we’ve started accepting these experiences as normal. But what if healthcare could feel different?

At Cassia, we believe you deserve a physician who listens, follows up, knows your history, and looks at the whole picture.

Your health deserves more than a 7-minute conversation. 🤍

Ready for a different kind of primary care? Schedule a discovery call with Cassia Optimal Health.

Better health begins with a better relationship. 🤎

That’s the message at the heart of our newly refreshed Cassia website, and it’s also a belief that has shaped the way I’ve practiced medicine for years.

As a family physician, one of the things I value most is getting to know the people I care for. Not just their medical history or lab results, but their lives, their concerns, and what matters most to them.

Because when there’s trust and open communication, we can have more meaningful conversations, make better-informed decisions, and focus on keeping you healthy rather than only treating you when something goes wrong.

It felt fitting to explore this in one of our first articles in ROOTED. 🌿

Menopause Awareness Month feels a little extra special this year! 🤎

I’m excited to share that I’ve earned my Menopause Society Certified Practitioner (MSCP) credential!

As a family physician and obesity medicine specialist, caring for women through perimenopause and menopause has long been part of my practice. Over the years, I’ve come to appreciate just how much overlap there is between hormones, weight, sleep, metabolic health, and so many other aspects of our health.

When I founded Cassia, lifelong learning was one of the principles I wanted at the heart of the practice, along with building strong relationships and taking the time to understand the full picture of someone’s health.

This certification builds on the work I’ve been doing for years and reflects my commitment to keep learning and improving the care I provide.

Always learning. Always growing. 🤎

Okay, but how many minutes are we actually exercising each week? 👀😂

For most adults, the recommendation is 150–300 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity per week, or 75–150 minutes of vigorous activity.

And let’s not forget strength training at least twice a week! 💪🏾 Especially as we age or lose weight, preserving muscle matters.

But here’s the thing: knowing what to do and actually making it happen are two different things.

Some people do just fine setting their own goals and staying consistent. Others benefit from a little more guidance, accountability, and a plan that fits their lifestyle.

That’s where having a physician who understands your health, helps you set realistic goals, and works with you to make adjustments along the way can make a difference.

And if you’re only getting 30 minutes a week right now? That’s still a start. We build from there.

The goal isn’t perfection. It’s progress, with the right support when you need it. 🤍

A few things life, work, and opening Cassia have been teaching me lately. 🤍

Learning to slow down, letting go of what I thought things should look like, and remembering that taking care of myself matters just as much as taking care of everyone else.

I’m still figuring things out as I go, and I think that’s part of the beauty of it all.

Here’s to growing, changing direction when needed, and making room for a life that feels as good as it looks.

Thank you for being part of this chapter.
