Hot take: I didn’t want to inherit someone else’s staff problems. 🫣

Building a team from scratch comes with its own challenges, but creating a culture that reflected my values from day one was really important to me.

My vision was simple. Work hard, have fun, deliver exceptional patient care, and genuinely enjoy the people you spend most of your day with. I wanted to build a team that shared that mindset from the very beginning.

Practice owners, what do you think is harder, building a team from scratch or inheriting an existing one? 👀

Episode 2: The staffing dilemma.

Why build a dental practice from scratch when you could just buy one?

A question I got asked A LOT when I decided to open LALUME. What surprised me most was how shocked people were that I chose the startup route. It definitely wasn’t the popular opinion.

There’s no right or wrong way to practice dentistry, but for me, the decision was actually pretty easy.

So I’m starting a little series sharing why I chose to build from scratch, the thought process behind it, and what I’ve learned along the way.

Episode 1: The practice I wanted didn’t exist. So I built it. 🤍

I recently added the Demi Pro curing light from @kerrdentalna to my daily workflow, and I’m loving how versatile it is!

Whether I’m bonding porcelain restorations, curing clear aligner attachments, or completing everyday restorative procedures, I love how its thoughtful features help make each step feel more efficient and seamless.

Because when it comes to dentistry, the little details make the daily workflow so much better.

Behind the Smile: Invisalign + Masseter Botox

Sometimes straightening the teeth is only one piece of the puzzle.

For this patient, we looked at the full picture: her bite, muscle tension, nighttime clenching, and facial symmetry.

By combining Invisalign, masseter Botox, and customized retention, we were able to not only reach her aesthetic goals, but also create a more balanced bite, reduce muscle tension, and improve overall facial symmetry.

This is exactly why I love comprehensive smile design. It’s never just about straight teeth. It’s about understanding how the teeth, bite, muscles, and face all work together.

Your dental needs may change over time, but your dental home doesn’t have to. 🤍

At Lalume, we believe there’s something special about receiving your care from a team you already know and trust. That’s why we’re proud to offer both general and cosmetic dentistry with Dr. Shahira Saad and advanced periodontal and implant care with Dr. Ara all under one roof.

From your routine cleanings and preventive care to smile transformations, gum health, dental implants, and more complex treatment, our team can collaborate on your care every step of the way.

That means fewer referrals to unfamiliar offices, better continuity between your providers, and a team that already understands you, your history, and your goals.

Because when your dental needs become more complex, you shouldn’t have to start over somewhere new. ✨

One year into practice ownership and I can confidently say growth is exciting, but it will humble you 😂

More team members, another treatment room, and somehow more things to keep track of.

I’m so grateful to have @genestlouisconsulting in my corner helping me zoom out, look at the numbers, tighten up our systems, and catch the things I’m sometimes way too deep in the weeds to see.

And if you’re a dentist thinking about opening your own practice, come join us October 24th for our Women’s Luncheon Panel.

I’ll be sharing the good, the hard, the growing pains, and everything I’ve learned building LALUME from the ground up.
