Foot health advice should work in real life. 👣

I’m Dr. Whitley, DPM, and I’m here to make foot health easier to understand, more practical, and more accessible.

From everyday foot problems and affordable shoe options to knowing what you can manage at home—and when it’s time to see a professional.

What’s one thing about your feet you’ve always wanted to ask a podiatrist? 👇

1. 📝 Write down what’s been happening. Include when it started, what makes it better/worse, and anything that has changed.

2. 📸 Take photos when you can. If a rash, swelling, wound, or other visible problem changes over time, pictures can help show what you’ve been seeing.

3. ❓ Bring your top 2–3 questions. It’s easy to forget once the appointment starts.

4. 🗣️ Ask: “What else could this be?” This can help you understand other possible causes and why your clinician recommends a particular diagnosis or plan.

5. 🚩 Before you leave, ask when you should seek care again. Try: “What changes or symptoms should make me come back sooner?” by @drwhitleydpm

Can rocker-bottom shoes affect your knees, hips, back or the way you walk? Yes—but an effect does not automatically mean damage.

A rocker shoe has a curved sole designed to help roll you forward through your step. Because that changes how you walk, it can also change movement and forces farther up the body—including at the knees, hips and potentially the back.

But those changes aren’t automatically harmful. Depending on the rocker design and the person wearing it, some stresses may actually be reduced.

👟 The takeaway: Pay attention to how your entire body responds when you change shoes. If new or persistent knee, hip or back pain develops after a shoe change, don’t assume you simply need to push through it.

Sometimes the “basic” information is exactly what someone needed to hear. ❤️

Not everyone knows what’s normal, what can wait, or when something deserves a closer look.

That’s why I keep talking about the warning signs, the everyday foot problems, and the questions people may be afraid to ask.

If something I share helps even one person feel more informed and confident about their health, it’s worth sharing. 👣

And if you have a foot-health question, don’t be afraid to ask. Chances are, someone else has the same question too.

🔗 I linked a few foot cream options for dry skin in my bio. SAVE this for later.

Dry, cracked feet? 👣 Before you keep piling on moisturizer, make sure you’re using the right approach.

For very dry, thick skin, a urea-based cream can help soften and moisturize the skin. This can be applied twice daily.

💰 Budget-friendly option: Use the lotion you already have, then apply a thin layer of petroleum jelly (like Vaseline) on top to help seal in moisture—especially at night. This can be done twice daily.

You don’t need an expensive foot-care routine to start taking care of your skin. Don’t apply in between toes.

⚠️ If you have deep cracks, bleeding, redness, drainage, significant pain, or persistent scaling/itching, get your feet evaluated—it may be more than simple dry skin.

Your feet and toenails can sometimes give clues about what’s happening inside your body. 👣

Vitamin deficiencies may affect your skin, nails, and healing—but these changes can have many other causes too.

We talk a lot about how marijuana can affect the brain and lungs—but what about your circulation? 🌿🦶🏾

Some research has found an association between marijuana use and peripheral artery disease (PAD).

PAD happens when narrowed arteries reduce blood flow to your legs and feet. That matters because poor circulation can contribute to symptoms like leg pain with walking, cold feet, and wounds that are slow to heal.

Association doesn’t automatically mean marijuana causes PAD—but it’s another reason your circulation matters when we talk about foot health.

Save this for tomorrow morning. 👣

Heel pain with those first few steps out of bed? 👣

Before you stand up, try gently stretching your foot and calf. Repeat 10 times.

Then avoid going barefoot first thing—supportive footwear may help reduce stress on the heel.

If the pain keeps returning, is getting worse, or is affecting how you walk, it may be time to get evaluated.

SAVE this for your next shoe-shopping trip. 👣

Shoes can feel great for 30 seconds in the store…and very different a few hours later. 👟

Give yourself a few minutes to actually walk in them and pay attention to what your feet are telling you.

Not sure if your foot problem is something you can watch at home—or something that should be checked? 🚨

Pay attention if it’s:
👣 New or getting worse
👣 Changing how you walk
👣 Not improving with reasonable home care
👣 Causing significant pain, swelling, redness, or an open wound

You don’t have to diagnose yourself. You just need to recognize when it’s time to get evaluated.

Save this for the next time you’re unsure. 👣

If your feet are hurting halfway through your workday, waiting until you get home isn’t your only option. 👣

Try making small changes during your shift:

1️⃣ Don’t stay planted in one position. Shift your weight, take a few steps, or change positions when your job allows.

2️⃣ Stretch your calves. Try holding a gentle calf stretch for about 30 seconds on each side during a break.

3️⃣ Elevate on breaks. If your feet or ankles feel heavy or mildly swollen after prolonged standing, prop them up while you’re sitting.

Your job may require you to be on your feet—but persistent foot pain shouldn’t automatically become your “normal.”

🚩 If the pain is worsening, changing the way you walk, or not improving, consider getting it evaluated.

Save this for your next workday.

New shoes aren’t always in the budget—and foot-health advice should reflect that. 👟

If you need shoes but cost is a barrier:

1️⃣ Check 211 for local resources and assistance programs.
2️⃣ Search for shoe-assistance programs or shoe drives in your community.
3️⃣ Check local clothing closets, community centers, churches, and nonprofits that may offer shoes.

And remember: a higher price tag doesn’t automatically mean a better shoe. Prioritize proper fit, enough room for your toes, and a shoe that works for what you do every day.

FIT > PRICE TAG 👟

Save this for later or share it with someone who may need these resources.
