Took me awhile to try to put in words what this man meant to me and my life and it seems to fall short. I don’t think anyone can fully encapsulate him and capture his essence in words.

How and where do you even start describing him?

He was the most influential person in my life outside of my family and I know that’s the same for many throughout his sphere of influence. He was my mentor, hero, father figure, friend, confidant…ish (people who know…know what I mean) therapist, sports psych, life coach and everything in between.

His leadership was in a league of his own. He commanded the respect of the room as soon as he walked in. You felt the love, kind, jovial, playful and serious spirit all at once. Everyone in fencing should have taken notes. He could do it all. He was a gift to the world. I was talking to Keeth during one of our recent celebrations, saying Peter had a gift that can’t really be described adequately unless you’ve had a conversation with him yourself or heard him speak. He shared that gift every Saturday. He always gave speeches and little antidotes that left you better.

This man’s accomplishments in the fencing community are too many to list, but I know one of the legacies he’s most proud of is the foundation. The families and countless lives he touched is generational and life altering.

How this man touched my life: he created my second family in this organization that I can rely on without fail. They are all ride or die. 🙌🏾Squad🙌🏾 He helped give me my first internship, job, and taught me countless life skills that can’t be quantified. Just to list a few, coaching, public speaking, mentoring, leadership, business and genuinely how to be better a better regardless of the situation you’ve been dealt. The list goes on. I still had so much more to learn from him.

I still don’t think this post does him justice. I know all your knuckleheads feel a void that can’t be filled. All I can think to say is, “My man.” 🕊️💔 by @dwight_smith7

Seniors: This was a rebuilding year for Team USA Men’s Epee. I know this year was hard in terms not qualifying, not progressing as far as we’d like, frustration and having to be at the lows of lows while watching our fellow weapons having amazing and uncharted success. When we are back on top, let us remember that success comes from humble beginnings. Plus, winning is the best deodorant, because losing stinks. I can’t wait to see this future. But until then, we will be Team USA’s best cheerleaders and live vicariously through these other weapons!

Juniors: It’s always fun traveling with you all. Keeps me feeling young. All the loud personalities helped Team USA form its identity. I know we you didn’t end the way we wanted but now you have a blank slate to write your history in senior. Henry: I saw the work you’ve put in this year, and this is only the beginning of what you can achieve.

Cadets: You are all so funny. I think the talent that’s coming up is phenomenal and you all so humble. That desire you all have to learn and drive to be the best will take you far. You are the 2032 generation. So your chapter isn’t close to being written.

Coaching staff, PTs, Staff and parents. You are the unsung heroes. Being on the coaching side, I see and have a new appreciation of all the work that is done behind the scenes to make it seamless for the athletes to compete. This continued support is what is contributing to Team USA have this amazing by success.

Now on to the Games. Congrats to all the athletes that qualified throughout the world. It’s a special moment that can never be taken away from you. Good luck to all the USA athletes going. I can’t wait to celebrate your success. by @dwight_smith7

Memorial Day Recap:

It always feels great to wind down and have a break outside of fencing. As much as we teach, we don’t often get to spend a lot of time with the kids, friends, family and parents. We had younger and older generations come together for the biggest BBQ yet. You already know the vibe.

Shout out Khris on the grill, Adam for bringing the 20 different sausages, Denise for that penne pasta, Demetria for those hand-made burgers, and Lindsey for hosting. And to me for being the food test-taster. Had to make sure everything was up to par. It was… by @dwight_smith7

Congrats to Mo @olympianjr on your 3rd place and Laura @loransia on your 8th place showing at ncaas and both as finishing all Americans. Congrats to Coco @cosgreggi on a great season. I know that’s not how you wanted to end this season, but we will build on this for next season.
Shout out to @nyufencing @harvardfencing @dukefen @wsufencing for being great travel pod buddies during #ncaa . That energy was contagious.

@liufencing , this is a great showing with the first year addition of the men’s team. You all definitely made it interesting and kept me on my toes.

Ivan and Sean, you already know, we are always trying to improve on the previous year. Can’t wait for next season…. by @dwight_smith7

@dwight_smith7 🇺🇸, @liufencing Epee Coach, shows his favorite touch. Dwight was a @teamusa alternate for the Tokyo 2021 @olympics 🤺, and was the 2015 Men’s Epee Senior National Championships Silver Medalist 🥈. He was a 3-time @ncaa All-American while on the @culionsfencing team. He represents @peterwestbrookfoundation and @usafencing. Thanks for sharing, Dwight! #fencing #escrime #esgrima #highlight #favoritefencingtouches by @dwight_smith7

2022 coaching photo dump. I’m bad at post because it takes forever and I overthink it. So this is the behind the scenes of this 20+ trips, 8 countries, 1k status, and tons of mtv cribs.

It’s great to see the growth of everyone in this sport. From watching the PWF youth grow and mature…ish on Saturdays, to watching my friends, teammates and students compete on all levels…locally, nationally, collegiately, and internationally. I also saw my friends grow as coaches and get to levels that has been long overdue. Can’t wait to see what greatness 2023 has in store. #begreat by @dwight_smith7
