Solar array problem solving. We tried digging, we hit rocks, we tried an auger, we hit rocks, we looked into concrete, got sticker shock 🤑... finally found what I am hoping is a solution for keeping your solar panels on your property around here. This customers original homeade wooden structure tipped in some big winds earlier this summer breaking all of her solar panels. She knew it wasnt the best, yet it had always worked for the last 5 or 6 years..... Until it didn't 🌬🏜🫯

After some interweb searching, I found this promising looking array option. Total cost for an 8 panel, adjustable tilt degree was right around $1550. Assembling the legs didn't take long, running the conduit would have been quicker if I had brought a helper, and you epoxy the cloth to the legs to keep it in place before dumping the gravel onto the cloth.

The leg assemblies have 1 inch emt metal conduit staggered from end to end. This ties the legs together and then acts as part of the ballast frame. The black cloth further acts as ballast "framing" with the sand and gravel mixture holding everything down.

Mounting the solar panels tomorrow if the weather allows 🤞🌞🏜

I had this view stop me dead in my tracks last night. After 13 years of living the off grid high desert mesa homestead life, I'm glad the land still has the power to grab me, slow me down, and let me just exist sometimes 😊

Well... I'm glad im addressing this now. Get everything all buttoned up before the snow starts flying. I haven't had a mouse in the house since about 2 years ago when I accidently left the door open a crack one night and ended up with 3. The ceiling cavity has been mouse free since I fixed the vent issues about 4 years ago. The house is tight, I just wanted to go back and fix a few things before the cold hits to increase the warming performance. I know the how the house performs. It would have been just fine, but it is going to be better. I did some insulation adjustment on the front face that increased the performance last year. Granted it was a mild winter, yet both winter and summer performance was increased.

Stay tuned as I catch up on little projects until I can go full out on the place 🤠

Let's fix our lil f**k up 🤗
.
About 93.7% of this could have been avoided by simply asking a couple friends in the trades what to do. It was during a weird time, plywood was stupid expensive, I had the materials I had... The first summer of the pandemic. I didn't want to bother anyone. I couldn't make my lack of knowing their problem. I'm supposed to know what to do...
.
I have since worked on these lil self created obstacles. Getting "uncomfortable " and doing the work to improve. Do not be afraid to ask, nobody knows everything. Now more than ever, don't be afraid to reach out for help. Ask those in your circle, your community, your support group, your neighbors, your tribe, your whatever... now is not the time for rugged individualism. Surround yourself with people that are a support group for eachother and be your best for them 👩‍🌾👩‍🍳👨‍🏭👩‍🔧👨‍🔬👨‍💻👷‍♂️👷🏻‍♀️💇‍♂️👨‍🏫🧙‍♀️🫈✊️

I'm looking to post longer videos on my YouTube so I can dig a little deeper into these 1 min reels. Keep an eye out for those coming soonish 🤷‍♂️🤪

Thank you Mom for dropping me off in the sagebrush, 13 years ago 🏜♻️🏡

I had somewhat of an idea of what I was getting into. I didnt really research the Taos area, I'm more of an physical learner. Put me into it, gimme some hands on, boots on the ground kinda learnin'... The people I met here at the Academy, the people I met in Taos that had nothing to do with the academy, the ideas exchanged, the work accomplished at the academy, the work accomplished at weekend work parties, the exposure to the rugged beauty of the High Desert Plateau and the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, the sunrises, the sunsets, staring into the Milky Way Galaxy from the roof of my Earthship on a crystal clear night and having the energy of the stars above and earth below lock me to that roof(🍄🌠😉) letting me know I was home, hiking Italianos trail and looking up the the Aspen groves as the golden leaves shimmer against the ocean blue sky on a crisp autumn morning, my first run down White Feather in blue jeans and Carhartt at Taos Ski Valley 🗻, and the Pigs! we can't forget about the pandemic pigs 🥰🐖

Thank you to everyone and everything involved in these past 13 years

I wouldn't trade a minute of it for anything...🥰
