I enjoyed facilitating ATD's Strategic Leadership for Talent Development Certificate Program! I am filled with gratitude and motivated by this exceptional group of leaders.
Over the course of the week in this new @atdnational certificate program, this group of experienced talent development professionals focused on five major areas of growth:
🔹 Reimagining their leadership identity and refining their personal leadership style
🔹 Building strategic influence by learning to inform, persuade, and communicate with real impact
🔹 Empowering their teams to perform through coaching and stronger team dynamics
🔹 Measuring and evaluating business performance, using data and financial literacy to tell the story of talent development's impact
🔹 Advancing their strategic leadership edge by aligning team development with business priorities and building lasting strategic partnerships
It was fascinating to see each leader’s shift as they shared the practical insights they were taking home to implement immediately. One leader began with the goal of “moving from a functional leader managing tasks to becoming a strategic leader who better understands and makes clear connections between talent development’s value and business outcomes.” She, along with the rest of her colleagues, left with practical tools and frameworks to make an impact on their for-profit, nonprofit, academic, and mission-based organizations, including a business performance scorecard and a personal action plan for their strategic leadership competencies.
Thank you to ATD for trusting me to facilitate this program! Special thanks to the amazing team at the @americanmanagementassociation for hosting us at their Executive Conference Center. They provide a first-class learning environment that enhanced our participants' learning experience.

📣 What does it take to lead when you don’t have the authority to do so? I explore that question in a new book launching this November.

📚 The “Secrets from Within the Coaching Room” by Ifalase McGowan, Cécile Jenkins, and Jonathan Passmore is officially on its way to publication and will be available in November 2026!

I’m honored to be among the 40 coaches and researchers who contributed to this book, which makes the business case for coaching by synthesizing academic evidence and real-world coaching scenarios. Each of us offers a different answer to the same core question: does coaching actually work, and how do we prove it? Drawing on my training in Adaptive Leadership, my contribution highlights “leading without authority” through the power of coaching emerging leaders who navigate influence without formal power.

This book is written by and for practitioners. To that end, our case studies include reflective questions for individuals, leaders, and Human Resource professionals to help move ideas from concept to direct application in practice.

I’m optimistic about what this book offers the coaching profession. I’m also excited about the project’s charitable focus. All proceeds benefit Railway Children, which supports homeless children in the United Kingdom, India, and Tanzania.

Thank you for your extraordinary work and for including me on the team, Ifalase, Cécile, and Jonathan!

I’m honored to be named one of the Top 1000 Coaches Worldwide in 2026 by Top1000.com!

My thoughts immediately turned to all my clients (both past and present), mentors, and colleagues who make recognition like this possible.

I’m immensely grateful to mentors like Marshall Goldsmith and Marcia Reynolds, who shape how I think about the coaching profession and set the standards I strive to meet. I’m also grateful to my 100 Coaches and ICF colleagues, and to everyone who’s pushed my thinking over the years.

Coaching is a gift that benefits both the person being coached and the coach. As I improve my coaching skills, I become more aware of how much I still have to learn. This awareness inspires me to keep growing and to remain dedicated to this vital work.

Huge congrats to Cornelia Choe and Marshall Goldsmith on “The Panoramic Leader” reaching #1 on the USA TODAY Best-Selling Books list this week! 🎉

As a coach, I find the book’s central idea that no one sees the whole picture alone especially resonant. In my work with leaders, I see that the leaders who grow fastest are those who recognize that their view may be partial and challenge themselves to expand it or seek alternative perspectives. Cornelia and Marshall not only name this key blind spot; they also build a practical framework to help leaders gain clarity and take action through “The GEM Process.”

I’m excited to have my copy (thank you, Cornelia and Marshall), and I’m already applying what I’m learning!
