After almost a year of not competing, and the year before competing whilst injured im slowly getting back into the game! This year has all been about rehab and getting strong enough to run properly. I managed to finish the Berlin marathon in sub 3hours and 2 weeks later got a surprise 3rd place overall in the Goodwood 20miler! Im now going to focus on 8 weeks of speed work to try and get ready for the hyrox season before hitting a few more running races. Before the end of the year I'd lik to be in 37:30 10km and 17:30 shape. Then im hoping to be ready for the OCR season and a variety of other sporting races? by @elambert1977
Berlin marathon done and dusted! A wonderful experience and a bucket list race completed! It wasn't the race I had hoped for but I was strong enough for a sub 3hour, making it my 33rd sub 3hr marathon! We recover and then we build again! by @elambert1977
Berlin marathon here we come! Its been 6 months since my achilles surgery and im not quite ready to start racing but im here to enjoy the experience and to give it a go! Hopefully it will be another big step in the right direction and becoming more competitive!? A big thanks to my family for supporting me through this journey, it has been a very humbling experience and reminds you about what's important life! Also a big thank you to Mary for coming out of retirement and swapping out massages with me to make sure I recover from all the rehab work! Let's go! by @elambert1977
Whilst on holiday in Malaga I managed to still get in some training at Mikes gym, and do some coastal and mountain running! Well also had some R*R swimming and stand up paddle boarding! by @elambert1977
4.5 month into a 9month rehabilitation program! Im trying to get the spring and tension back into my achilles so that i can run properly and compete again! I can see the light at the end of the tunnel but I still have lots of hard work to do! We go again. by @elambert1977
I have been suffering with Insertional achilles tendinophy and calcaneal enthesitis for several years! I have tried to avoid surgery and managed it as best I could, until I rolled my ankle on a trail run and tore my post tib, peroneals and my achilles in 3 places. I tried to rehab it myself but in the end I only managed 3 running races in 2025 and resorted to sports where running was only part of the equation(OCR&hyrox). I tried shock wave therapy, cortisone injections, and cryotherapy but in the end surgery was inevitable. After waiting for a year and a half, the NHS offered me a date which I took. The operation was partially successful so I will have lots of rehabilitation to do in order to get my ankle fully functional again. Unfortunately due to the timing of the operation I have withdrawn from the European hyrox champs in March, we have had to cancel/postpone our holiday to Cape Town where I was hoping to catch up with old friends and to participate in the Cape Town hyrox(my home race). Hopefully we still get to go at a later stage as we did get a 100% travel voucher. In the meantime I will focus on my rehab, and will work on my weaknesses which tend to get neglected when we get obsessed with only running and hopefully i will be able to run pain free again! by @elambert1977
The London Hyrox was my 7th time under 1hour in the doubles event. Each time I have teamed up with a friend and thoroughly enjoyed competing with them! With my first 5 events i used my running fitness to compete in hyrox and did my usual S&C. This time I trained specifically for hyrox and joined the #thedrop so I could do some specific race sessions and push myself a little harder! This started well with a PB of 56 in the doubles and a 1hr08 in solos but unfortunately I injured myself in a Spartan obstacle race(1 too many steps in potholes) My last 2 Hyrox races I've done with a lot of strength work and cross training but no quality running(this doesnt work!) Why did I do them? 1st of all I had already entered the races and I didn't want to waste the money. 2nd of all, my partner @mark.dickson.running is a stand up guy and wasn't bothered that I wasn't running fit and wanted to try the experience knowing I'm no where near my best! Somehow we managed to get around in 58minutes. 3rd of all I'm having my achilles operation through the NHS so you never know when it's going to happen but hopefully within the next few weeks? Goals for 2026? I think i am finished with OCR unless the operation will enable me to run uphill and off-road again? Hyrox I dont know? We will let the powers that be-decide, but i would love to come back and do some serious damage!! Running: I would be grateful to be able to run pain free again as this is my 1st love and it will always will be first choice! To be honest I only got involved in other sports when I had a running injury and now I've competed in: Duathlons Triathlons Obstacle racing Hyrox functional fitness racing Trail running Everything in life happens for a reason and I will try to take the positives out of everything! by @elambert1977
Birmingham Hyrox: I talked my friend, @mark.dickson.running into doing the hyrox doubles with me at Birmingham and after doing 2 training sessions, he agreed! Whilst I'm waiting to have surgery on my achilles tendon and calf, we thought we would limp the runs and try to push the exercises! Somehow, we managed to go sub 1 hour despite a comedy of errors and finished in tie 3rd in our age category. We weren't at the prize giving but got informed that the other team received the podium flags as they beat us by 1/100th of a second! That's racing and we go again! Im trying to keep fit by cross-training whilst I wait for my operation in Dec/Jan. by @elambert1977
Spartan National Series: 2nd in my age group in the UK! Congrats to @ryhfitness on winning the series, he fully deserved it and was the best athlete! Congrats to @ollie_jc_gb on taking 3rd! It was great racing with you guys! by @elambert1977
Im grateful to have had the opportunity to compete at the World OCR champs in Gothenburg ,Sweeden. It was an amazing experience that i will never forget, 100% obstacle completion for both events! These are a couple of team photos and a few from the different age group categories @robertboarder @tonyzumbaleary @andrewdurrance by @elambert1977
15 years after my 1st obstacle race in Cape Town, "The Impi Challenge," I participated in the World obstacle Championships held in Gothenburg, Sweeden. Gothenburg is an amazing city, and the locals are incredibly friendly . This was an amazing venue to host the world champs. The course started on an athletics track, then onto the grass and then onto the trails and running up ski slopes. The short course was 3km with 20 obstacles, and the long course was 12km with 40 obstacles. It was a challenging race with a good blend of obstacles. I was fortunate enough to recover sufficiently from a rolled ankle and a torn achilles that I could participate. On the short course, my age group started in waves of 25 athletes(89 of us), and i had qualified to start in the 1st wave with the faster athletes. I had a terrible start to the race and got caught in bottle necks at the rig obstacles that only had 4 or 6 lanes, but I picked athletes off and managed to finish the 7th. Once the other 3 waves had finished, I had dropped to 13th place. I had a 100% obstacle completion, which always makes me happy, but my running was average at best! The following day, I did the long course and also managed 100% obstacle completion! I really enjoyed the race and gave everything that i had, but I wasn't able to produce the performance that I had been producing earlier in the year! These are the type of obstacle races that i really enjoy doing, but we dont have any like this in the UK. I am now going to take an indefinite break from OCR, I'm going to focus on getting my ankle stronger and go back to my roots and focus on running! I've made many friends in OCR, and I wish you all the happiness and success that you deserve and sure we will cross roads at other events! by @elambert1977
A big thanks to Scotty from the PT Barn for helping me prepare for the World OCR champs in Sweeden next week. These are a couple of videos from the UK training day and a few of my training sessions! by @elambert1977
