Sometimes, you’re so focused on what went wrong, what’s missing, or how much further you have to go that you miss what’s already there. 👀

Zoom in. You might be overlooking more than you think.

“Ever feel like you’re overthinking every move, even the things you normally do without thinking? 👀

Sometimes, it’s not that you’ve gotten worse. You’re just thinking so much about your performance that it’s harder to play freely.

Your next move doesn’t need to be perfect. Trust your training and focus on the play in front of you.

One mistake shouldn’t get to decide how the rest of your game goes.

You miss the shot, mess up a pass, or make a bad play. Then your brain keeps replaying it, and suddenly you’re struggling to focus on what’s happening right in front of you.

Sound familiar?

Try this 60-second reset:
Breathe. Ground yourself. Find your next step.

You can’t change the last play, but you can choose what you do next.

Which gets you most: replaying the mistake, overthinking it, or losing focus?

“You train your body to perform. But what about the part that helps you use all that training when it counts?

Your mental game might be the missing piece. 🧠

What’s tougher for you: staying focused or trusting yourself?

Ever wish your teen could see in themselves what you see in them?

Watching your athlete doubt themselves when you know how capable they are can be tough. But confidence doesn’t always come from hearing “You’ve got this.”

Instead of letting them get overwhelmed by everything they’re worried about, help them bring their focus back to what they can control. One play. One skill. One step at a time.

Follow @elevivesportspsychology for mental skills built to help competitive athletes build confidence and trust themselves so they can be at their best.

That heavy chest before game time? It is not a lack of talent. It is unmanaged pressure.

You spend hours training your body. But who is training your brain? 🧠

Every teen athlete knows the spiral. The heart races, a mistake happens, and suddenly you are overthinking every single move. 🌀

Here is the truth. That does not mean you are not good enough. It just means your brain is reacting to pressure.

Your coach taught you how to play the game. Mental training teaches you what to do when your brain gets in the way. Confidence, focus, and resetting after a mistake are skills you can actually learn.

Stop trying to just calm down. Learn how to handle the nerves.

Sitting on the bench while watching everyone else play is one of the most frustrating feelings in the world.

It is easy to let your head drop and check out mentally. But getting frustrated will not get you back to the game, because getting ready is what changes things. 🧠

You cannot always control the coach’s decisions. But you CAN control your focus while you wait, how locked-in your body is, and the energy you bring the second your name gets called.

Stay ready so you do not have to get ready. ⚡

What is your go-to hype song when you are getting ready for a game? 🎧

🧠 That is not a talent problem; it’s a mindset skill.

The post-game car ride home can either build your athlete’s resilience or drain their confidence, and it usually comes down to what happens in the first 10 minutes after a tough loss. 🚗💨

When a game doesn’t go as planned, your child’s brain is already flooded with stress and self-criticism. Adding technical feedback or asking “what happened?”forces them deeper into emotional overload (what we call the Red Zone).

As a parent, your role in that moment isn’t to be the coach. Your role is to be the safe harbor.

Mental toughness isn’t something kids are born with—it’s a trainable skill set. When young athletes learn how to direct their thoughts, regulate their emotions, and reset after mistakes, they don’t just perform better, but they enjoy the sport again.

Ever feel like the harder you try during a big game, the worse you play? 🙋‍♂️

That’s not you losing your talent, that’s your brain stepping into the Red Zone.

When pressure hits, your nervous system flips into defense mode. Instead of playing on instinct, your brain tries to micromanage every move, pass, or shot you’ve done a million times before.

🚩 Swipe through to see if you recognize these 5 subtle signs:
Overthinking things that used to be automatic
Playing it safe so you don’t mess up
Carrying a bad play into the next moment
Thinking about what could go wrong instead of what could go right
Grinding harder, but feeling like everything gets harder

The goal isn’t to never feel pressure. It’s learning how to catch yourself in the Red Zone so you can reset and play free again. ⚡️

📌 Save this for game day, or send it to a teammate or athlete who needs to hear this today!

When the stakes rise, your brain’s primary goal shifts from performance to protection.

That sudden tightness in your chest, hesitation on the play, or overthinking a movement you’ve done ten thousand times isn’t a sign that you lost your skill. It’s your nervous system blocking access to your training under stress. 💥

You don’t need more reps or physical drills. You need to train the mental system that dictates whether your ability shows up when it counts. 🧠

📌 Save this for game day, or share it with an athlete or coach who needs this reminder today.
