For the past 25 years, I’ve met book clubs and other groups at the Swan Coach House to talk about The Swan House. The lovely Gift Shop has carried that novel (and others of mine) for all these years. It was so great to see everyone!

THURSDAY TO “MUST” BE READ REVIEW❗️📗💚🤍🤎

🦢📚 THE SWAN HOUSE 📚🦢 by @elizabeth.musser ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This outstanding novel -that feels like a classic- was such a moving, thought-provoking, and heartfelt read!

Set in Atlanta in 1962, this coming-of-age story follows sixteen-year-old Mary Swan Middleton as she navigates devastating loss, discovers a world beyond her privileged upbringing, and begins a journey toward a deeper understanding of herself and her faith.

Oh, how I loved Mary Swan! 🥰 Her freshness, sincerity, ingenuity, boldness, and compassionate heart made her such a lovable character. She saw people, not skin colors or social classes, and wasn’t afraid to question prejudices or stand up for those whose voices went unheard.

Ella Mae was another favorite. Her maternal love, wisdom, and simple, trusting faith were beautiful to witness. Carl, Robbie, Miss Abigail, Rachel, and many others added depth and charm to the story.

The characters feel so real, and the family drama, secrets, and mystery surrounding the missing paintings add even more intrigue.

I especially appreciated how the author handled difficult themes such as racism, antisemitism, classism, and mental illness with honesty and sensitivity. The story offers a painful yet meaningful glimpse into the prejudices of the time while reminding us of the dignity and worth of every person.

And the faith message? Beautiful and profound. The truth sets us free, a personal relationship with God transforms us, and Jesus is our true Redeemer, loving us all regardless of our background or social standing. ✨

A rich, engaging, and deeply human story about grief, compassion, personal growth, and the transforming power of love and faith!

A book to reread, reflect on, and discuss with a book club. It truly feels like a classic! ❤️

A few weeks ago, on a gorgeous fall day, I had the joy of strolling through beautiful Gibbs Gardens with my sweet sister-in-law @marycgoldsmith. The flowers and butterflies brought such profound and yet simple delight. I am so grateful for eyes that can behold the Lord's creation.

Your words throughout the years about how much The Swan House has meant to you have brought similar delight to me. I am also grateful for the kindness and encouragement of readers' words.

Can you find the butterfly in each photo? Is there someone you can speak a kind and encouraging word to today?

Yesterday was a delight, being at #TheSwanCoachHouse on a gorgeous fall day for the release of the 25th Anniversary Edition of THE SWAN HOUSE. l signed books outside the #swancoachhousegiftshop. Then I ventured inside, and while lovely readers enjoyed their yummy lunches, I spoke on my writing journey and inspiration for #theswanhousenovel25thanniversaryedition.

What a treat to meet precious readers, some whom I knew, others who were friends of friends, and others who blessed me simply by their whispered words of what my novels have meant to them. I even met a fellow author from Georgia, #calliemurray.

A special thanks to Andrea Dod and all her staff at the Gift Shop for organizing the event. Best of all, my main man and better half, Paul, was with me the whole time.

📖 CURRENTLY READING

🦢Currently Reading: The Swan House by Elizabeth Musser

🎧📚Format: Physical Book - This beautiful new re-release edition!

📖 What it’s about (so far): It’s the 1960s in Atlanta when tragedy strikes a young privileged girl’s family and the events of one year alter the course of her life forever.

✨ First thoughts so far: There have been a few unique elements right off the bat: the inclusion of poetry and art to the foundation of the plot line, a unique Dare challenge at the local private girl school, and the true historical airline crash that helps thrust the story forward. It’s intriguing to think about where the book might lead!

🤍 Why I picked it up: I’m always in the mood for a historical fiction book! Also, I read one of Elizabeth Musser’s books a few years ago (The Sweetest Thing) and I enjoyed it, so I was excited to pick up another one!

We want to thank the author and the publisher for generously sending us copies of this beautiful re-release edition to share with you all! by @elizabeth.musser
