POSTS STORIES REELS

I have dipped back in to the glorious greening in Ireland’s summer. I had some radio silence here. Working on a number of projects at Nead Fáinleoige and painting here that I’m excited to share soon. I took some time to feel time, life and all its branching in the circle of the day and night.

I claim to be an eco contemplative painter, a term I arrived upon a few years ago after studying with The Centre for Education, Imagination and the Natural World. I learned there that what I felt so profoundly in my practice of presencing myself with the creative forces in nature was not a new concept but something ancient and practiced with different names.

Days taken to be with the natural world charge me with art. It bursts forth like fire or water or Angelica unfolding from its pod. Reignited by the green flame, I’m following the stream line and listening carefully. Though the cacophony of troubles do not miss me, nor do the record temperatures and quieting springs. Earth is speaking and expressing its longing to be heard.

I’m eager to bring my work back to Asheville too and reunite in August at Ochre Rose with @amandamclenon and @kelceyloomer
Visit Ochre Rose this summer in Asheville NC @ashevillecottonmill and the new @laurawildergallery in Glasgow Scotland to find my art 🦋✨

Thank you for the portrait @miafoleyart 🦋💕✨

Irish artist @elizabetharthouse is based between Asheville North Carolina and the Burren in Clare, returning to Ireland annually. Her work is deeply involved with Earth; “I have spent a good deal of life working with, and through the cycles of life at the heart of nature. These are becoming common themes in a growing awareness of our deep dependence on healthy eco systems.”

Come see Starmaking
part of the show Contemplating Helene….

a new work from my River Not Alone series which will be on view in the Black Mountain Arts Centre @blackmountainarts

opening reception September 4th at 5.- 6.30 pm

Shaped from river water pigments inks pen and the words of my community layered together.
Some of the words in this piece came from listening to Elevate AVL, a series of interviews made by the office of recovery and resilience, with communities around Asheville who together took care of each other after tropical storm Helene in 2024. My own neighborhood is amongst those interviewed. You can find these interviews on youtube and through this link https://www.ashevillenc.gov/news/stronger-together-stories-from-avls-neighborhoods-post-helene/

As we come to our two year anniversary this work and series live close to my heart and are a way for me to share some of what was experienced here.

Since 2020 I’ve undertaken a contemplative practice of exploring the river and myself as part of a shared ecosystem. In the powerful devastation of what ensued in September ‘24, this project was extraordinarily interrupted. I circled back this past Spring and spent some weeks painting and retracing my steps, finding my feet on the riverbanks again, and remembering the circles of care that emerged and formed into a bright constellation of resilience and love. Neighboring under some of the heaviest circumstances, we held hope and each other.

Love you Asheville

Wilding and Meadowing pieces from my Millefleur series
Harkening back to late winter early spring when I was commissioned to make one of these and was so excited by what was happening on the canvas I made a second so as to spill that energy over. It sold so swiftly at our Ochre Rose opening.

My intention was to make these immersive meadow paintings as I’ve made before in a series of work. But in these so naturally windows opened, like portals, appearing invitations and openings to a bright sky space. It is such an inclination of mine. I flow with it as best I can.

I am making two smaller works in this vein at the moment in Ochre Rose which I will show on our second Saturday Fall Party opening October 10th

Bathing in the last light

A small work just 6 × 8 inches and framed just under 7 × 9
Bathing in the last light is made with natural earth paints and bronze dust patina on wood panel, sealed with a natural varnish and floater framed.
An ode to our waters, of swimming places here in WNC, especially up near rocky fork state park where I recently swam in such beautiful waters, so grateful, a most wonderful refreshing dip in these days of summers end and last light.

A dream and a prayer for their protection.

Now available at Ochre Rose gallery and studios in @ashevillecottonmill and my website with link in bio

Every good wish

#wildswimming #wncmountains #portalplace #holywell #ashevilleartist by @elizabetharthouse

I wish I could be @killrudderyarts this weekend for the opening of the interwoven show. My work Éa-U is there. Made from summer walks of wondering and wandering in the Burren in the summer. I wanted to make a portal that really was an invitation into both the peace and the richness that embroiders my senses alive in that place.
To say yes to it and offer every reminder of good living I could that it exists there, amongst the churning maddening world.

An invitation down the green lane,
to the radiant holy well
amidst the dipping and diving
of Fáinleoige- swallows sweeping by me
into upward arcs
100s of miles an hour
In the great hum of bees
and all pollinators
at the seasons zenith,
Till August’s
Lunasa is at the door
Calling out, seasons still exist
Herb Robert is rusting to red
Blackberries hue up
First leaves fall
