STATE CHAMPION 🏆

so beyond grateful to have this opportunity to make history for not only our school but also our program. If you were to tell me 4 years ago that I would be a state champ as a sophomore, I would have lost my mind. All the hard work, sweat, and tears all led up to this moment. A special thanks to my parents for always being there and making sure I'm getting to practices and eating correctly. My coaches for pouring into my mindset and making sure I was always able to compete to the best of my abliltys with their teachings. And lastly, for the practice partners I had in our room. I wouldn't have wished for a better team this year. Now on to freestyle and greco bby! by @ellie.higginbotham01

2025 Wonder Woman Champ!!
I couldn't be more excited about this tournament. All the hard work, dedication, and long hours have finely been shown with these last couple of tournaments. I didn't do this all by myself ofc I had help from my amazing coaches and even better parents! My amazing friends also have helped me so much. Kamora, thank you for taking all my photos for this weekend and being mat side for all my matches. Adia, for being my overall person and never letting me get into my own head and emily for being an amazing warm-up partner! Neela and Chloe for doing our amazing tiktok dances and everyone else for making this possible! We aren't done yet tho 24-2 by @ellie.higginbotham01

This sport is hard.
It's hard on your body, the six-minute fights that you have to put together to show that all the work that you've put into this sport was worth it. The hard practices that you have to go through to make sure that you are prepared for a big national tournament like this. Some people think that wrestling is all physical, but this is not the case.
It's taken me a while to figure out that what goes on inside your mind matters when you are wrestling. I thought that going into this tournament that I was going to be able to All American. The first day everything was going to plan, I even beat the #1 seed. I was feeling great. The second day I was doing everything the same as I was the day before. Same breakfast, same warm-up partner, same playlist. Consistency is key. The second day I knew my first match would be a battle. I wasn't in the right headspace. I was too worried about trying to gain that result that I wasn't focused on the match in front of me. I ended up losing. This first loss was actually to the girl who ended up winning the national title in our weight class. Now it was a quick turnaround for this next match. I needed to fix my emotions and go out there open-minded. The match was going just how I needed it to I was up and winning. My coach and I talked about how she would get desperate and throw something. It happened and I was fighting off until I heard the whistle on the other mat and stopped. It wasn't our whistle. I had lost my match and any chance I had at becoming an All-American. I thought I had let everyone down. I was the only girl in my area still in and I wanted to prove to people that I wasn't just lucky or good for my state. I wanted to prove them all wrong. It was always my why. I have learned a lot from this tournament. I'm so beyond grateful for my wonderful parents who are always there for me making sure that I know that everything happens for a reason and that my work will always pay off when I fully need it too. My coaches who traveled up there to make sure I had faces that I trusted and someone who knew the way I wrestled. All my beautiful friends with who I get the opportunity to train. We aren't done yet. by @ellie.higginbotham01

I'll be back...

As this week goes on, I've finally had enough time to process this whole season. I've had great things happen this season, like placing 6th at Wonder Woman, 5th at state, and even winning a couple of tournaments. Needless to say, there is still so much room for improvement. I want to thank my teammates for always pushing me to be the best version I can be. I'd like to thank the coaches for never losing faith in me and constantly helping me grow. Lastly, I'd like to thank my mom and dad for everything that they have helped me achieve, with the endless rides to practice and having to stay up later to pick me up from tournaments. I'll be back next year and be expecting big things. by @ellie.higginbotham01
