Die Aufnahmen im Tonstudio 45 waren super! 2026 wird zumindest musikalisch vielversprechend. by @elmarfreels

21.11.2025 @the_extras_band in Cologne at the @sonicballroom

The Extras, formed in Cologne in 2023, have been on my radar from the start – partly thanks to their friendship with the @nastyneighbours from Argentina.

Their debut album “Closer” confirmed that they’re a band to watch. It delivers ten fast punk tracks plus a standout song featuring two impressive guests: Sonny Vincent, one of the last legends from the early New York punk scene, and my mate @theotherjamieoliver drummer of Anti-Nowhere League, who also plays with countless bands across all stages at the Rebellion Festival in Blackpool.

After listening to the album intensely, I was curious whether they could match that raw energy live. The sold-out Sonic Ballroom set the perfect stage: packed, loud, sweaty, and already buzzing before the first note.

The Extras started with two fast songs and needed a moment to warm up, but by the third track everything clicked. The guitars cut sharper, the rhythm section tightened up, and the singer found his stride. From then on, the band delivered a strong 12-song set – direct, energetic, and noticeably rougher and more intense than on the album.

It took me far too long to finally see them live, but that’s going to change. Their next gig in February is already in my calendar. Who knows – maybe there’ll even be a surprise guest.

Thanks, @elmarfreels and @cutiemessx, for the invitation!
