$Enrique López Llamas 𝘌𝘭 𝘰𝘵𝘳𝘰 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘵𝘢𝘨𝘰𝘯𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘢 𝘥𝘦 𝘭𝘢 𝘯𝘰𝘤𝘩𝘦 Cur. Gaby Cepeda Feb 1 _ Mar 15, 2025 LLANO Ciudad de México, MX OPENING: Feb 1, 2025 _ 11:00 MATERIAL MONDAY: Feb 3, 2025 _ 16:00 𝘌𝘭 𝘰𝘵𝘳𝘰 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘵𝘢𝘨𝘰𝘯𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘢 𝘥𝘦 𝘭𝘢 𝘯𝘰𝘤𝘩𝘦 focuses on Enrique López Llamas’s (Aguascalientes, MX - 1993, lives and works in Mexico City, MX) most recent body of work, for which he re-wired his practice into one of indisciplined pictorial representation. In a series of video vignettes, the artist explores ideas of failure, performance, repetition and identity—a high-concept coming of age narrative portrayed in heightened visuals. The videos are complemented by a series of sculptures that hint at the artifice implicit in art creation—as well as in the creation of our own selves. A group of paintings round up the solo show; backgrounds for the mise-en-scène propped up as if waiting for their turn in the warehouse of one’s memories. 🚬 @elopezllamas @gabycepeda @mmmmmaterial @lagunamx @primoelaperitivo @mezcalamaras #savethedate #apartalafecha #mexicocityartweek #semanadelartecdmx by @elopezllamas$

$Enrique López Llamas 𝘌𝘭 𝘰𝘵𝘳𝘰 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘵𝘢𝘨𝘰𝘯𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘢 𝘥𝘦 𝘭𝘢 𝘯𝘰𝘤𝘩𝘦 Cur. Gaby Cepeda Feb 1 _ Mar 15, 2025 LLANO Ciudad de México, MX OPENING: Feb 1, 2025 11:00 — 17:00 MATERIAL MONDAY: Feb 3, 2025 16:00 — 20:00 This exhibition is all about repetition and failure, about the Sisyphean trial and error that constitutes both the universal experience of performing adulthood and a life consecrated to art making: the risks and triumphs, the shame and the assurance, the impostor syndrome versus the main character syndrome. The artworks here give form to the artist’s corpus and to his own identity and vice versa, they’re entwined, reflections of each other, duplicates in a series of objects intimately linked, unfolding in the space in ‘mo- ments’ intended to emphasize what binds them: artifice—the fiction of ourselves that overflows into art, and the simulations of art that overwhelm and alienate us from first contact.

When the lights turn off in “A million more things to keep me awake” by Enrique López Llamas (@elopezllamas), it’ll take your eyes a second to adjust. You’ll blink—once, twice—and then you’ll start to notice a glowing constellation of green. Perpetually falling men, a clown, and more will materialize, a crossover between the bedroom ceiling stars and the recurring dreams you may have had as a child. These works, from López Llamas’s series “Glow on,” ask us about the things made most visible in the dark.

Come experience for yourself. BCHQ is free and open to the public this Thursday through Saturdays, 11am—3pm each day. Walk-ins welcome (though if desired, appointments can be made via link in bio).

Many thanks to all who came out last weekend to kick off our newest exhibition at BCHQ: “A million more things to keep me awake” by Enrique López Llamas (@elopezllamas).

What a privilege to debut this trio of works—“The Magician,” “Glow on,” and “Lo visible, lo invisible”—in Denver and the U.S. For those who have yet to visit, we hope you’ll drop by. For those who attended opening weekend, we hope you’ll be back.

BCHQ is open today, Friday 10/2, from 11am to 3pm for public viewing hours (no appointments necessary). We are CLOSED TOMORROW, Saturday 10/3. We will resume our regular public hours cadence of Thursday through Saturday, 11am to 3pm, again on Thursday 10/8.

$Now open at Black Cube Headquarters (BCHQ): “A million more things to keep me awake” by artist Enrique López Llamas (@elopezllamas), curated by Cortney Lane Stell (@cortney_lane_s). On view Thursdays through Saturdays, 11am-3pm, through January 16, 2027. Marking the artist’s first solo presentation in the U.S., this memorable exhibition highlights three major installations by López Llamas: “The Magician” (2026), a newly commissioned, large-scale, hand-painted sculpture activated by disco ball motors; “Glow on” (2025), a selection of suspended glow-in-the-dark, low relief sculptures; and “Lo visible, lo invisible” (2025), a single-channel short film. Together, these works offer a unique blend of humor, nostalgia, and personal, art historical, and pop cultural iconographies. A choreographed lighting sequence guides viewers through the space, with each cycle opening space for unexpected acts of reflection and discovery. “Across these works,” Stell writes in her curatorial text, “López Llamas does not simply reproduce a fragmented visual culture; he makes its fractures tangible and personal. Images detached from their origins circulate beside one another; references from different eras becoming neighbors […] Context is continually stripped away, while recombination becomes a way of making meaning.” . . . “A million more things to keep me awake” is made possible with generous support from @warholfoundation, the David and Laura Merage Foundation, and @co_creatives, among others. Special thanks to @llano__mx and @fundacioncalosa. Electrical wizardry by @endpointelectrical. Installation support from Graham Eschen, John Roberts, Mike Howard, Neil Myers, and @fridayworks.fineartservices. Photos: @thirdduneproductions. by @elopezllamas$
