Good posture is not about any one right position, but how you think about your body in space.

✨✨FOLLOW @embodiedposture for holistic posture wisdom and cultivation of daily ease.

These three questions are the guiding light of inquiry I use with clients who suffer chronic postural tension and pain:

1️⃣✨What's holding you back from tapping into the freedom and vitality that's your body's original state?

2️⃣✨What needs to change in your thought processes that will help your nervous system let go of the tension in your body?

3️⃣✨How can you allow your body to be truly supported by lightness, balance, mobility and ease so you can live your best life?

🖖I invite you to start answering these questions by using my FREE Posture Awareness Guide.

Comment 💬 Lightness and I will send it to you.

✨ A little reintroduction ✨

➡️➡️ FOLLOW @embodiedposture for holistic posture education that really matters.

HERE IS WHAT I SEE:

Most of us have been taught to think of “good posture” as a correct position that we’re supposed to hold. 🤯

But, if you have followed such advice before (like most of us did), you know that trying to hold "correct" body positions only creates more tension. 😭

💥Direct posture correction doesn't work and can even be harmful to you. 😠

This is why I teach

----> ✨ INNER POSTURE WORK ✨

What's needed is taking a deeper look at those inner patterns of mind, body and emotions that have been running the show and causing stress, exhaustion and pain.

✨Only when we begin to shift our patterns towards more balance and support can the nervous system, mind and body tune into the calm presence we need for healing our posture and mobility of the body.

🌸🌸 If this speaks to you I invite you to book a free NEW POSTURE consultation where I’ll share tools you can use to feel better right away.

Many of us get so used to being on guard that we forget what it feels like not to be. Do you know what I mean?

It’s a mental phenomenon that triggers the body. And our shoulders, jaw, face and ribcage may all participate in that familiar response.

✨So try this next time you go for a walk:

🔹Notice how you’re holding yourself together. Ask yourself if you really need to be like this right now?

🔹Maybe your shoulder bag feels like it’s slipping down? 💫 Carry it in your hand or on your elbow for a bit.

🔹But if there’s no practical real reason to be tense, be aware of it.

🫶That is embodied empowerment: to know that you can make changes because you have choices!

🔹So, instead of forcing your shoulders down, allow them to release away from each other, and allow your ribcage to widen.

🔹You are free to choose to move through life with more ease and openness, and without having to meet every moment as something to defend against.

And that is what I want you to DISCOVER: What happens inside of you when you stop doing it?🎈

xoxo Flora🌷

It’s amazing, the discipline you musicians have, the drive and expertise to do what you do! 🫶 And I know it often comes with the burden of highly stressful days, weeks and months to perfect that piece - which can mean tension, joint pain and mental exhaustion.🥺

And here too, knowing what your body is actually doing that causes you strain, how it could feel without doing it, and then redirecting it back towards a more balanced state, again and again and again…. is the 🔑 to doing it all in style.
💃🏽🎵🎤

That’s what we did, what you did for yourself.👏

I believe that working with our body (and not against it) is in itself an existential skill to have in modern life.

It’s not just about better posture or less tension, but how you’re willing to meet yourself and experience the world.

✨Even after 55 trips around the sun, the first beat of an 80s song can transport us straight back to being 17.

And when the disco ball turns and the fog machine fogs, life seems magical again, innocent. 🏓

DANCING WITH YOURSELF
never gets old.

At least until the next morning, and the day after that, when we’re reminded that we’re 55 again. 😂

But here’s what I love about getting older: you realize that life isn’t about trying to look or act younger.

It’s about staying curious, flowing, moving, laughing, dancing and enjoying being alive.

I think the point is as we’re adding years to our life, we need to make sure we keep adding life to our years - even if that means traveling back in time about 38 years.😱

Gen X, who’s joining me on the dance floor?

When you’re back hurts, shoulders are tense, your body feels heavy and tired but you need to keep working anyway? 🥺 I’ve got you.

I know how frustrating this is specially with all these “20 rep neck fixes”, “forward head posture fixes”, “back pain fixes” screaming at you that only make things more dangerous for your spine and health.

So here is what I am wondering:
Why is nobody asking the questions that really matter for your body?

👉🏼 Why is your back hurting?
👉🏼 Why are your shoulders tense?
👉🏼 Why do you feel tired tired and heavy when you sit at your desk?

It’s not because you’re lazy, or bad at the posture thing in case you were wondering.

Here’s why:

👉🏼 Because first of all, your body is trained from a young age to work way too hard! 🫶

👉🏼 Because our bodies are forced to use tremendous amount of energy day after day just to keep us upright 🥺 if the way we sit lacks structured balance, and keeps us frozen in place for hours, days, months or years behind a desk.

This is not your fault.

As a holistic posture therapist with 25 years experience helping people, I’ve seen the strong pull of our social conditioning to sit up straight, to pay attention, to be quiet, to stop wiggling around, to shut up and work hard for success, over and over and over again.

It’s a mental pattern that acts on our body whether we are aware of it or not.

It’s not your fault and its not your body’s fault that sitting at a desk can be so challenging.

✨👀That’s why I created a short educational video that shows you how you can set yourself up for more balance and ease as you work at your desk.

You work a 9-5 desk job and want to SAVE YOUR POSTURE? These tips are for you.

🎉Here’s 5 adjustments that help you avoid straining your neck, back and shoulders:

1️⃣ Bring your laptop into easier reach so you don’t have to strain your neck and shoulders.

2️⃣ Balance your upper body over your sit bones. See other videos in my feed that explain this in detail. 👀

3️⃣ Bring your screen up closer to your eyes, again, to avoid straining neck and shoulders.

4️⃣ Use a separate mouse. Same reason! 😃

5️⃣ Move your arms freely from your back, not just your shoulders. Your arms are powered by your back muscles, not just your neck and shoulders.

🫶As a holistic posture coach, this is one of the most important skills I help you develop (based on the teachings of the Alexander Technique).

🥺Your shoulders are tense again and you feel stressed out?

NO PROBLEM!

Because the good news is that it’s YOU who controls your settings, and the way YOU ARE moving in your body.💫

You’re just up against a universal habit.

The habit of rushing from one thing to another goes deep. We all do it. But what’s empowering is that you’re the one who controls your own levels of stress, tension and hurrying.

Try this👇
THREE SECOND RESET:

😱Next time you feel the energy of rushing threatening to overcome you, pause yourself.

🔽 Press pause on that forward drive, on your inner busybody.

👀 Look and see. What is in front of you? What’s behind you, what’s left and right?

Noticing your environment connects you back to being in your body in this present moment.

👉🏼 Balance your skeleton over your feet.
👉🏼 Allow your shoulders to widen and let go.
👉🏼 Allow your spine to lengthen up.
👉🏼 Breathe.

✨Continue what you were doing, but lighter.

🎈This is how you regulate yourself before tension turns into pain.

✨If you’re looking to feel better and improve posture but WITHOUT having to push and pull on your body all day… then 💫 FOLLOW ALONG because this account is for you. 🎉

So what’s up with slouching?😅

It is absolutely normal to slouch into ourselves when we feel low mood, low energy, or just blah.
That’s mind-body unity in action.💕🤗

It’s like the body forgets it’s elasticity and lightness for a moment so it can accomodate our emotions, moods, fears and anxieties. 😮🤯

But when we restore our relationship with gravity by consciously connecting through our feet and pelvis, pressure comes off our body.

That’s when energy gets replenished, our mood improves, and power can return to the body…. whether we decide that we’re ready for it.

Working with the body in this way is healing on so many levels. Great posture is just the wonderful side effect of it all.
