Resistance rooted in rhythm & love ✊ by @enigmad_
“I suppose I love this life in spite of my clenched fist.” ~ A. Gibson by @enigmad_
March madness ~ what a full power few weeks. Birthday, work, community, love. So grateful for my mob x by @enigmad_
Biggest love for KDA ❤️🖤💛 Few snaps from yesterday’s Next Generation Kuranda Amphitheatre gig! Huge heart filled thanks to all involved ~ many hands on board collaborating to create a beautiful music & loved filled afternoon ~ commUNITY 👊 by @enigmad_
I hope you have time & space to play, anchor into your body & get your feet on the earth ~ I hope your shoulders are relaxed, your jaw is unclenched, & your breath is full & deep ~ I hope you are warm, well fed & surrounded by love. May all beings be happy, may all beings be free x by @enigmad_
As the chaos magik of my Saturn return finally eases, I find myself in the most beautiful & relieving space of integration. I’ve been traversing some intense grief portals these past few months as I come to an embodied understanding & complete surrender that my life is simply holding the line. The naivety has long vanished, & some days it feels as though I am drowning in despair. Yet I look around me to take stock of my life, & I drop to my knees & weep in complete awe at all the comrades around me. Resistance looks different on all of us, yet underpinning it all is so much love. Made the biggest mission to get down to Armada Festival this new years & I couldn’t have asked for a better way to close ‘25 & begin ‘26 - one of the best gatherings I’ve been to in my life! After navigating some really challenging experiences in the past 2/3 years, I’ve been creatively uninspired & completely jaded by the festival community particularly in FNQ where I’m already an outlier with my music taste & have a completely different value system to the dominating boys club up here. I left Armada with a renewed sense of hope for the future, a profound sense of belonging, a radical acceptance & comfortability of self, & deep inspiration to continue shaping underground grass-roots community spaces. Can’t thank the Armada mob enough for the spaces you’re building, the art you are showcasing & community you are connecting - & thank you to all who made my trip possible & so comfortable! Whooosh what a psychedelic life hey. To work on the frontlines in Djabugay country, & to be a part of the underground psychedelic music community, is a privilege I am grateful for everyday ~ my anchor points rooted in deep reciprocity. May the seeds we plant today provide shade for all of those after us. Godspeed out there comrades. In love & solidarity x by @enigmad_
Is the underground still a sanctuary outside the system, or has it quietly become a microcosm of colonisation & capitalism wearing a psychedelic costume? Events once built by poor & working-class misfits as resistance to oppressive systems are now becoming playgrounds for people with disposable income & curated aesthetics. The very people who built this culture are being priced out. Our roots are being replaced with branding, our rebellion with compliance, our presence with performance. The place we went to escape has become a space where we self-surveil, curate an image, & chase clout instead of connection. Our counterculture is being colonised ~ ego, hierarchy, individualism, extortion ~ increasingly lacking depth or real values. Can we look up from our phones long enough to actually be in the room with each other? When did hippy & punk culture become a costume instead of a commitment? Since when did “underground” mean the right tattoos, outfits, or clique to be welcome? Why do we keep protecting networks where bigotry, misogyny, homophobia, racism, predatory behaviour & violence get brushed off so certain people can keep their status? Too many choose social capital over community, too many sacrifice values by prioritising proximity to influence over the wellbeing of those dancing beside them. It is necessary to think critically & reflect ~ why are you here? Is it to show resistance through love & art, to build community, to foster safe spaces, or is it to swing your cock around, feel important, or carve out another VIP coke room? Intentions shape culture, culture shapes practice, & practice becomes harm or healing. If you love this scene ~ bring your values back to the centre! Support local artists, keep events accessible, call out your mates, hold your crews accountable, build spaces where marginalised people are safe not sidelined, put community before clout, presence before performance, care before capitalism. The underground doesn’t need more spectators or scene queens ~ it needs custodians, rebels, people brave enough to remember why this began & bold enough to build the next chapter with integrity. by @enigmad_
