Sterling silver, cut and carved vintage celulloid hairbrush, prong set, post closure

My work draws inspiration from growing up in my father’s industrial metal recycling shop, city landscapes, indigenous textile patterns, old-school hip-hop fashion, and repetitive forms in nature. I love to investigate the boundaries of size, color, and preciousness by using materials with their own inherent aesthetic hierarchies, such as antique buttons and celluloid dresser vanity sets. Buttons, hairbrushes, and mirrors are more than tools used for grooming or fastening a jacket. Transformed from their original state, they become tokens that carry memory, elevate personal expression, and evoke a specific time and place. During the Art Deco era, these materials emerged featuring striking cherry red glass overlaid with silver streaks and intricate embossed floral designs—emblems that juxtaposed rigid architecture with the fluidity of the natural world. Using these manufactured industrial materials as a focal point in jewelry reminds us of the exquisite beauty found in the smallest forms. This attention to detail, color, and texture rivals any gemstone, offering infinite possibilities for wearable art.

Summer has been all things magical, curly beach hair, sandy toes, too much ice cream, and late, late bed time, thus not much studio time😵‍💫😬. All the deadlines for all things jewelry seem to be for mid September so I’m trying to balance enjoying the warmth of long summer days with grinding it out at my bench, and computer, wish me luck! 🍀 🤞💎#futureheirlooms #statementearrings #contemporaryjewelry #snagmember #handmadejewelry by @erika_jorjorian

Still buzzing from the @snagmetalsmith pin swap and conference, so much fun, some familiar faces and so many new connections made, thanks again! I’m not going to tag everyone, but give a shout if you see your pin here! #metalsmith #artjewelry #pinswap #snagxdetroit by @erika_jorjorian

First SNAG show trunk sale in the books! Thank you to all that organized and planned ahead to make the experience such a success. And to the buyers that brought new pieces home✨🙌#futureheirlooms #metalsmith #artjewelry #craftsmanship #snagxdetroit by @erika_jorjorian

Absolutely blown away by the talent, creativity and love at the SNAG conference! From keynote address with @tiff_massey to talk with @eliasnotafraid, the fastest and most stellar sand casting demo by @fflood and gallery crawl. So much to think about and be motivated by when I get back to my own studio. Thank you @snagxdetroit @snagmetalsmith!! by @erika_jorjorian
