The moment everything clicked…Going through two shoulder surgery forced me to be honest. Honest with got me to this and how I can overcome my setback.You can either rush the re-build phase or be patient. I chose to be patient. The process was testing and it came with physical and mental fatigue, but this phase required me to re-learn.This shift has changed my mindset towards training and how I also coach clients. Some recent training 🎥Just under 2 weeks out from my first show this season. I’m really happy with where my training performance is across all sessions. Keeping my lifts as heavy as possible, whilst being mindful of keeping that mind to muscle connection on the muscle groups I am training.Something I am a big believer is quality over quantity. Training x mindset The first two sets in this post using the @gymleco hip leg press is from this week. The third video is from last week.Last week I felt strong on the hip leg press, so going into yesterday’s session I was determined to increase the weight, keep the same level of intensity / form and get after it.My main working set yesterday an extra 20kg added to the top and bottom pegs and my back off set, was my working set from last week.Myself and @kerrysexton_ifbbpro had a conversation about this yesterday. On prep it can be easy to fall into a trap from being in a calorie deficit and energy being lower that training performance will always dips. Something I think really helps is going by how you feel on the day. Not all training sessions you will feel like your sets are there for the taking. But if you are prep or dieting, try to remember to feed your mind with positive self talk. About last night…Big shout out to @powerupleicester and for setting up the U.K. All Star Tour with @giles_tiger in my home City Leicester.I had the privilege to sit down with the Maryland Muscle Machine - @kevinlevrone in private last night and talk about bodybuilding, mindset and life in general.Great energy and good vibes. Kevin is a physique when I first started training in a bodybuilding gym @sugars_gym , I remember seeing his pictures on the wall and to me that’s the kind of physique I aspired to achieve. Upper 1 - back and biceps Another upper session complete today. Still pushing the limits where I can to make sure training performance holds up.… I’m doing this through training intensity and remembering my why. Today was one of those days where it would have been easy to take my foot off the gas due to energy, but I’m not programmed like that. My mindset is really focused on not selling myself short, when the workout is over there’s not getting it back so I put the work in, get home and prioritise recovery. Generally back is a stronger bodypart for me, but as an athlete there’s no room for complacency. Push training when dieting Chest, shoulders, triceps… I’m sure many of you will relate when getting deeper into dieting that these muscles group drop off strength wise.I’m definitely no different, triceps and front delts being smaller muscle groups generally drop off in strength before the chest. What helps me from a mindset point of view, is remembering during a calorie deficit I’m not growing. It’s in the off season months where food is higher, where muscle growth and strength is at its highest. So during prep, it’s not about trying to hit pbs, but instead keeping training intensity high, adjusting training volume and load to still have productive sessions… Also not forgetting recovery!📝 Tip - try not to use dieting as a reason to be hard on yourself from a numbers standpoint.
