Polling shows the public value senior doctors working in the NHS, so why doesn’t the government? We’re campaigning for a reversal of real-terms pay cuts for consultants and SAS doctors, and improvements to their working lives. We want to keep senior doctors in the workforce and make sure patients get the best care possible. We are currently balloting consultants and SAS doctors in England for industrial action. Locally employed doctors plug the gaps and keep services afloat, all the while being employed on insecure, short-term contracts. The new Eligibility and Permanency Framework will allow LEDs who meet the criteria to move to nationally recognised SAS contracts. This is a direct result of SAS doctors standing up to be counted during the 2024 dispute and negotiations. When we stand together we can win. by @thebma
