“It’s up to you how far you want to go, but the most important thing is building those relationships with those around you.” — Kathryn Schloessman

I had the incredible opportunity to participate in the 2026 Los Angeles Sports & Entertainment Commission (LASEC) Professional Development Program Summit, and I am incredibly grateful for an experience that gave me greater clarity, inspiration, and confidence as I enter my senior year at Loyola Marymount University.

As a filmmaker pursuing a future in sports documentary production these five days of panels, workshops, mentorship, site visits, and conversations with industry leaders left me with an even clearer understanding of the type of career I want to pursue. I also learned that there is no single path to getting there.

I am incredibly grateful for the mentors, speakers, and fellow PDP participants who took the time to share their experiences and invest in the next generation. As someone pursuing documentary filmmaking within the sports and entertainment industry, that reminder was incredibly meaningful. My journey may take me through different roles, organizations, and opportunities, but every experience has the potential to teach me something and bring me closer to the stories I ultimately want to tell.

Some of my biggest takeaways included:
• “No career path is linear.” - Drew Moncivaiz
• “Be proactive: put yourself out there and ask for coffee, meetings, and volunteer.” — Carter Cottrell
• “Rejection can be redirection, so keep on pursuing your passion.” — Laura Roenick
• “The art of following up is dying, be a follow-upper: 90% of life is showing up.” — Miles Rogers
• “You can never be too diverse because you want to be able to pursue every opportunity.” — David L’Heureux

As I continue pursuing my goal of becoming a documentary filmmaker and producer in sports and entertainment, I am excited to continue learning, building meaningful relationships, and developing my voice as a storyteller. I hope to create films that go beyond the game and explore the people, cultures, and human experiences that make sports so powerful.

“Nā Kāne ʻElima” is a Hula documentary that follows five young men who find purpose, healing, and identity through Hula. As they prepare for the biggest stage of their lives, they build a brotherhood rooted in discipline, culture, and shared experience—dancing not only for themselves, but for each other and the stories they carry beyond the stage.

We made a concept film! This is the heart behind Surfers Jewelry. I wanted pieces that stay gold, stay on, and stay sustainable. No luxury markups. No tarnish. If you’ve been looking for jewelry that’s actually “lifeproof,” you’re in the right place ✨

“What A Privilege” it was to make this film, featuring @mariaxsorsha ✨

🎥Directed by Ethan Chang

“What a Privilege” is an intimate portrait of purpose, opportunity, and the quiet inheritance that shapes who we become. Set in Rotterdam, Netherlands, the film follows Maria, a 22-year-old transformative art student, during a year in which her major is being phased out — a moment that forces her to confront what it truly means to pursue a purpose in a world where not everyone can.

Through the rhythm of her days — biking through the city, creating in the studio, serving drinks late into the night, and returning home to her parents in Dordrecht — Maria begins to reflect on the privilege that makes her pursuit possible. She recognizes that the opportunity to study art, to search for meaning, to chase a dream, is not universal; it is built on the sacrifices of those who came before her. Her parents’ hard work, stability, and love form the invisible foundation that gives her the chance to imagine a life driven by creativity.

As Maria navigates a world increasingly shaped by technology and uncertainty, the film explores a central idea: understanding one’s privilege is not about guilt — it is about gratitude and responsibility. When we acknowledge the opportunities we’ve been given, we gain the courage to create boldly, to use our purpose to inspire change, and to honor the sacrifices that allowed us to dream at all.

At its core, “What a Privilege” asks viewers to reconsider the meaning of purpose. Perhaps not everyone gets the chance to chase a calling. Perhaps some never discover it. And perhaps, for others, being alive — simply existing, creating, loving, contributing — is itself a purpose.

With warm natural light, still frames, and intimate interviews, the film captures the beauty of ordinary life while posing a profound question:

2026 is about chasing stories that matter.
Documentary filmmaking isn’t just what I do — it’s how I listen, learn, and create change.
This year, I’m committing to telling human stories that inspire hope and shift how we live.
Let’s see where this purpose takes me. 🎥

Family Weekend 2024 Recap 🎥✨

Family Weekend at LMU reminds me why I love doing what I do — capturing stories, emotions, and moments that remind us we’re all connected.

The weekend was packed with creativity, community, and lessons that stuck with me long after the cameras stopped rolling.

I got to film global conversations featuring Ed O’Neill and Anthony Ramos — both offered powerful insights that hit home for me as a filmmaker and storyteller.

🎭 Ed O’Neil spoke about staying grounded and remembering that success comes from showing up and being authentic, not pretending to be someone you’re not.

🎤 Anthony Ramos shared that fear should never stop you from doing what’s right or meaningful — a message that resonated deeply as I continue chasing stories that challenge and move people.

Throughout the weekend, I also had the chance to connect with LMU alumni and hear advice that stuck:

“Use opportunities as learning experiences, not resume boosters. Internships are stepping stones to your first real job.” - Rob LMU 2013 Alumni📸

Some personal takeaways from the weekend:
	•	🎬 Gratitude for the craft: It’s a privilege to call storytelling my work. Every shoot — no matter how small — sharpens my purpose.
	•	🤝 Community is everything: Whether it was families visiting campus, professors stopping to chat, or late-night talks with friends, I was reminded how much people fuel creativity.

Family Weekend wasn’t just an event — it was a reminder of why I create: to connect people, to reflect life, and to tell stories that matter.

Here’s to an exciting weekend ahead with LMU Family Weekend 2025 that’s gonna be filled with light, laughter, and storytelling that brings people together. 🎥💙

Special thanks to Ashley Skutt and her team at MarComm for providing me with all these amazing opportunities🙏

Thank you, Grandma, for this “Grateful” sign I keep in my room while studying abroad in Bonn, Germany 🇩🇪It reminds me—especially in moments of homesickness, frustration, or on a quiet rainy day—how thankful I am to be here. 🙏

If we’re not grateful, how can we truly embrace and enjoy the moments life gives us—both the good and the bad? taken in Bonn, Germany by @e_channg
