Last of the shop cleared out. Crazy to see it empty. Sold most of the big equipment, and brought a shit ton of tools, fluids, and parts to our place in Pemberton. If you brought your car to Continental, thank you for the business and your trust. Sorry we closed a bit abruptly. If you’ve ever partied, hung out and built bikes, fixed motorcycles, limosines, or old cars in conti, or pushed fire trucks, or if you’ve ever gotten married or raced toddler bikes, had sex of some kind, drank, toked, fought, cried, danced, got hurt, rode trainers, drank coffee, met for rides, planned races, started race teams, or whatever else you did in this building- thanks for coming- and add your story in a comment below, and/or dm me some pics!I by @eurotune
@pnwracing.bike trip, second half- Holland and Belgium, I @partsandlabourcoaching was DS/mechanic/driver/coach/dish washer. After 24 hours of travel, we arrived in Watersley for a 3 day stage race. Big race, high level competition from all over the world. @john_willcox_ was steering the ship (and caravan car) and I helped keep it organized and running smoothly. The boys rode well and learned a lot. Racing these narrow roads in the heat iwith this competition is next level. After Watersley we moved to Belgium for some kermesses. The boys did great with a couple podiums and a bunch of top 20’s. Kermesse racing is an international proving and learning ground for aspiring pro’s. I also got to do some riding and managed to ride up almost every famous berg in the area, which was cool yet humbling. Such a cool trip, I’m grateful to @paul__rigby and @steroordaph for trusting me and giving me the opportunity to help out. It’s an amazing to be a small part of this team. by @eurotune
I @partsandlabourcoaching spent the last 25 days with @pnwracing.bike as a DS/Coach/soigneur/chauffeur :) Very long travel days led to great racing with a cool crew of talented and gifted riders. Fun to get to know them, watch them race and help where I could. First stop was @tourabitibi for a week of stage racing. @ebbieroberts and I learned a bunch together in the caravan, kept the boys fed, watered, in clean clothes and on perfect running bikes. No mechanicals! This is an awesome and historic race with unreal organization and really good international competition. The PNW team away with a 3rd place stage finish and a top 20 overall. by @eurotune
One fun part of organizing @shimsride making cool things. Cliff thought so too. Thanks to @nickmonette for drawing Marty, he was fun to bring to life. Sewing is satisfying and worth learning. I use a 55 year old machine (a Bernina 730) I bought for $250, so it’s a low barrier of entry. Also- always keep foam! You never know when you’ll need it! by @eurotune

Okay- let’s talk crashes. It’s been a bit of a year for them. More than normal, an uptick from last year. We’ve had other years like this though. This time of year we get a rash of crashes. Why? Recent upgrades? Fitness surging? Frustration with results? Hey, maybe it’s just all the May/june racing. Many things are better than they were. Helmets are better. Protocols are better. First aid is better. So: what’s worse? I chatted witha bunch of folks- coaches, race organizers, officials, old heads, young guns. “Etiquette is the problem. “ “Skills are the problem.” “The upgrade system is the problem.” “Existential angst from a life online is the problem” Yes, maybe. But, I got bad news. I loath to say it, but Taylor Swift is right. Let’s all sing it together: đŸŽ¶ It’s me, hi, I’m the problem, it’s me! It’s me, hi, I’m the problem, it’s me! đŸŽ¶ Every time we join a race, we are accepting that we are a part of a small temporary community. That community relies on each of us to make decisions that are in the best interest of the community around them. Luckily, the solution to greatly reducing crashes as a community is simple. Take a look at the image on this post. There are two areas of responsibility- forward and rearward. Most people know about their forward responsibilities- don’t overlap wheels, watch for sudden braking, watch for hazards, look ahead and stop looking behind you. Simple. What gets talked about much less is our rearward responsibility. This is where your racing social contract comes in. Be smooth. Learn to sense where riders are WITHOUT looking back. Don’t brake suddenly, don’t throw your bike back when you stand. And most importantly of all, don’t change your line drastically for any reason! “But wait Unc, how can we learn this?” Group riding is the answer. If you are thinking about this stuff in a race it’s too late, and you are part of problem. This needs to be practiced so that it’s part of your brain’s wiring. If you don’t ride in groups, you shouldn’t race in groups. So, tell your coach, tell your friends, tell your team: it’s time to bring back group rides. by @eurotune
