Everything is awesome because we made it to the official week of THE SLATE 2026!!!!!!

Each AWESOME night you will have an opportunity to experience the work of our returning artist, Almost Through April, along side performances from Cam MacGregor, Lou Sementilli, and Scott Yoo Ryu! And the night doesn’t end after these performances!! Join us after the show for a talk back with all these stellar artists. Talk to them about their process, what you liked about their work, and anything else your heart desires. Many of these pieces are still in development, so the artists want to hear from YOU directly. 3 days of music, theatre, reflection and JOY!!!

Sooo… LET’S BE AWESOME TOGETHER, at The Slate, October 15 - 17 at The Green (36 James Street, St Catharines).

We are raising money to help support the artists of The Slate 2026! Your donation helps make certain that we can make this festival the best it can be! Tickets are $15 at the door. If cost is a barrier, we are also offering a PWYC option.

We’re also giving away 2 tickets to The Slate to the best dressed and best dancer! So get your dancing shoes on and come ready to party!

BALFY & THE HYPNOTIST is the latest play from Evander Jack Dewar and he NEEDS to know what you think of it.

Starring Gareth Finnigan as Gregory Oscar Jordan Brent BALFY and Darius Rathe as Sid Porter THE HYPNOTIST

This staged reading will be taking place at Cinecycle 129 Spadina Avenue. Doors open at 6PM with the reading commencing at 6:30PM. The reading is about 45 minutes in length, with an optional talk back with the cast & crew. Feedback is IMPORTANT to us!!!

BALFY’S A FRAUD AND SID PORTER WILL BRING US TRUTH THROUGH COMMUNION!!!

Tickets are Pay What You Can and there is room for 50 audience members so please message or email to reserve a spot!

🦉🗯️A DOG CAN APPLY? WELL THEN SO CAN YOU !!!

Well, applications are open, and we want to hear from you, dawg!!

The Slate is a mixed arts festival run by the not-for-profit arts organization Half Blind Owl. There are many performances given on every day of the festival. Three fifteen minute excerpts of a new work-in-progress, followed by a 45 minute - hour long performance by the returning artist from the previous year. This year our featured artists are the band Almost Through April, who have continued developing their full-length album with us.

Our theme this year is HOPECORE. What are you getting ridiculously excited about in the face of adversity? How can you commit yourself to the making of a better future? What does a nerd look like when all the knowledge of the world is at our disposal? Dig deep, believe hard, and don’t give up.

Originally conceived to be a laboratory for the artist, The Slate is not for the finely tuned project (we love them though!) This festival is for redefining goals, and setting personal achievements that can be made along the way to the finalized product. We are developing process along with the work, and inviting Niagara audiences in to grow with you, and your art. After each performance there is a mandatory talk back for the artists to have dialogue with the audiences about their piece, learning how art holistically interacts with community.

Is there no reason to live but to stand up and speak??

Happy #worldtheatreday to all who celebrate. I hope you enjoy my collection of photos I had in my camera roll that I needed a reason to post. There was so much to celebrate this year in terms of community, in terms of connection. Too much love for far too few people, and here is to EVEN MORE this year! Yippee!!!

🦉🗯️ BLANK happens over and over (iykyk) !!!

We are so happy to be able to revisit this piece in a whole new way. Thanks to everyone who came out to this workshop performance, providing feedback as we move into this next stage of the piece. We hope you enjoyed playing some games with us, and join us for karaoke again sometime soon!

Of course, we could NOT do this alone.

This workshop has been supported by @ontarioartscouncil through their RGTC program. We are very thankful for @suitcaseinpoint awarding us this grant and for being a guiding force in our development as a cohort.

And of course we couldn’t do this without the support of @barmordecai and the lovely team there. It is a beautiful space that has inspired the current iteration of this show.

Last seen at The Slate 2024, BLANK by EJD is coming to Toronto for one night only! Join Beau, Laur, Ash, Nat, and Kal for an unforgettable evening in the Vegas karaoke room at @barmordecai on Tuesday January 20th at 7PM.

This is a free workshop event and there are only 15 slots available so please fill out the google form in our bio to secure your spot!
