I’ve been thinking lately about all the different versions of myself I’ve been throughout my short life. The identities I’ve held, the things I thought I knew, the paths I believed I would follow. We spend so much of life trying to figure out who we are, as though one day we will arrive at some final version of ourselves. But our story continually changes. Again and again. I realize that everything I’ve given up, lost or outgrown has helped bring me to where I am today. As a society, we often focus on what we’re gaining, what we are becoming, what comes next. But rarely acknowledge all that’s been shed along the way. The expectations, the identities, the things we carried for so long that we didn’t even realize how heavy they’d become. Growth isn’t always about adding something new but sometimes recognizing how much you’ve already released. Even what falls away has purpose. #shed #release #growth #reflection #aspentrees by @evergreenvibesyoga
I think sometimes, as yogis, we can feel that we shouldn’t be political. That maybe our practice should somehow remain separate from the world around us. But liberation and freedom are central to the philosophy of yoga. And yoga doesn’t ask us to turn away from the world. Instead, it invites us to become more conscious of how we move through it. It asks for us to practice ahimsa, non-harming. To recognize that our lives are deeply connected to the lives of others. Voting is one way we can put those values into practice. A chance to consider not only the freedoms we experience, but the freedoms of our neighbors, our communities, and those whose experiences may be very different from our own. What does liberation mean anyway, if we only consider our own? Your voice matters. Use it thoughtfully. It is too late to mail in your ballot, drop it off at a drop box! #vote #yogateacher #liberation #ahimsa #political by @evergreenvibesyoga
A photo dump of some moments from the past months and some thoughts lately 🍂 I’ve been reading Elena Brower’s “Hold Nothing”. It’s become a welcome morning ritual. Slowly waking up with a hot cup of tea and a few beautiful insights. This week, I found myself returning to something I’d starred and underlined: “Certainty can be a liability. If I have an answer, the conversation ends.” I’ve been sitting with that. There are changes happening at my non teaching job. My entire position is shifting, and with that came the realization that I might be ready to move on. Not right now, but soon. I pulled oracle cards and they seem to tell me what I already know. You’ve been resting. You’ve been healing. But this isn’t it for you. Something different is calling. My partner and I have said so many times that we’ll know our next steps when they come. Life has shown us over and over that even our most carefully made plans rarely unfold the way we imagine. And yet, I’ve been scared. Scattered. Uncertain. Then I reread those words. If I don’t really know where I’m going, other than forward, how can I expect to know with certainty what comes next? And do I really need to know? Am I ready for the conversation to end? #yoga #reflection #change #yogateacher #inspiration by @evergreenvibesyoga
Lately, low class numbers have been stirring up a lot in me. I’ve had classes canceled, attendance dropping, and moments where I genuinely question whether I should keep teaching in the capacity that I am. I love teaching at studios, but the preparation is a lot. The commitment is a lot. And the pay doesn’t always reflect the energy that goes into it. Deep down, I know that life happens. People get busy, priorities shift, and attendance fluctuates. But I’m human, and sometimes my sneaky ego gets in the way, turning low numbers into self doubt. Today, I taught a new class, and one student showed up. I was genuinely excited because I knew this individual, and I love sharing energy with them. This person is navigating an incredibly painful season of life. They needed space to be exactly as they were. They needed something to focus on. They needed solace. They needed the practice. They needed their breath. And I was reminded of something that I sometimes forget. I have no idea what each student is carrying when they walk through the door. In a room full of people, there isn’t always time to connect beyond the practice. But today, with just one person, I had the opportunity to see a little more of what was beneath the surface. And it reminded me that the space we hold as teachers matters. Whether there is one soul in the room or many. Today, my ego softened. I was reminded of why I teach. My purpose. My why. It’s funny how the universe sometimes disguises its lessons as challenges. What could have felt like a disappointing turnout became one of the most meaningful reminders of why I love to teach yoga. Sometimes, what we think is lacking is exactly where we find what we need. To everyone who has ever shared their practice with me, thank you. It is an honor to be your teacher. ❤️ #yoga #yogateacher #reflection #purpose #sankalpa by @evergreenvibesyoga
Lately, I’m constantly being challenged to actually live my values. And it’s not always easy. Most of us openly would say we believe in compassion, truth, non-harming, courage and justice. But what happens when those values become inconvenient? When speaking up costs us something? When doing what we believe is right asks us to step outside of what feels comfortable? The Yamas aren’t a list of rules. They are an invitation to continually ask: how am I living what I say I believe in? That is part of the work of yoga. Not simply becoming more flexible in our bodies but becoming conscious about how we move through the world and the true impact we have on one another’s lives. The practice doesn’t end when we step off the mat, it just gets more challenging. #yoga #yogaphilosophy #values #morality #moonrise by @evergreenvibesyoga
Content warning: discussion of sexual assault. News about the Cornell rapists keeps finding its way to me and every detail breaks my heart a little more. 💔 Reading about Jane Doe’s experience has brought me back to something I have carried with me for more than 20 years. Will this change minds? Will this change hearts? It is the same question I have asked myself ever since I was raped at 13. My sexual abuser was a family friend. Someone I was close to. Someone I knew. Someone I trusted. It’s important to understand that sexual violence does not always come from a stranger. I share my story because what happened to me is not an isolated incident… About 1 in 5 US women have been raped. Rape IS very much a part of our culture that too often asks survivors to carry the weight of what was done to them. After I was raped, I was forced to stop practicing with my dance team because the man who raped me was dating another girl on the team. Various adults sat me down and told me the incident was my fault and that I was responsible for managing the consequences. After that, once word was out and charges were made, my school turned on me. I was getting someone in trouble. I was ruining someone’s life. Had I thought about what I was doing? The worst moment I had experienced kept getting worse, as those around me protected my rapist instead. I know now, it’s not what I wore. It’s not what I did. It was him. Though the impact followed me for years, with therapy I’ve been able to reach a place where I no longer carry guilt for something that happened to me — something I had no control over. That distinction took me years to understand. I share today because now is the time to share. I am not ashamed of myself. I am ashamed of the culture that exists in America. I am ashamed of how we fail to protect women and how often survivors are asked to absorb the consequences of someone else’s violence. But I am also proud. Proud of who I am today. Proud I survived. Proud to not be silent about things that matter. Sharing stories won’t change every mind. It won’t change every heart. But I know what silence costs. And I will not be silent. #believesurvivors by @evergreenvibesyoga
A little glimpse into my summer yin series! Over ten weeks, we slowed down, reflected, planted seeds and explored what we want to cultivate in our lives. I loved creating little details for each class — cards, crystals, seeds, fire ceremony… all the things that made the experience feel intentional. But as I’ve shared before, my favorite part was always the moment someone walked through the door. The relationships we develop through meeting in community help keep us inspired and connected. They remind us that we are unique, while also being part of a larger whole. Thank you to all of my students who shared this summer season with me. I’m so grateful for the time, energy and presence you brought into the room. #yoga #yin #summerseries #evergreenvibesyoga #yogateacher by @evergreenvibesyoga
I found this breathtaking lotus flower in the wet mountains just a few weeks ago and I keep coming back to it. The lotus serves as a reminder to me that mud and beauty coexist. Yet, we spend so much of our lives trying to clear the mud… trying to get past a difficult season. Trying to fix what hurts.. trying to become someone who has it all figured out. But the lotus doesn’t wait for the mud to disappear before it blooms. The mud is part of its becoming. The lotus doesn’t grow in spite of the mud. It grows from it. And it’s a reminder that life is like that too. The beauty doesn’t mean there is no suffering. The suffering doesn’t mean there is no beauty. The two coexist. Side by side. Maybe you don’t need to clear all the mud. Maybe you just need to notice the beauty blooming alongside it. #lotus #growth #yogaphilosophy #wetmountains #evergreenvibesyoga by @evergreenvibesyoga
A little fall ritual 🍁🍃🍂 As the seasons start to shift, I’ve been reaching for simple, warming things - like this homemade tea blend with holy basil, ginger root and cinnamon chips. ✨Holy basil (tulsi) is traditionally used as an adaptogenic herb and contains antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds. ✨Ginger contains compounds with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity and has long been used to support digestion. ✨Cinnamon is rich in antioxidants and contains compounds with antioxidant-inflammatory properties. Together, they make a delicious, grounding blend that supports the changing season. That’s what I love about little rituals - they don’t have to be overly complicated to feel nourishing. What are you reaching for as we move into fall? #evergreenvibesyoga #mindfulliving #herbalteablend #yogaoffthemat #fall by @evergreenvibesyoga
I haven’t been able to get on my own mat and it was the gentle reminder I needed that most yoga doesn’t actually happen on the mat. The longer I practice.. the more I realize yoga is everywhere ✨ #yoga #evergreenvibesyoga #yogapractice #yogaphilosophy #sunset by @evergreenvibesyoga
I’ve been thinking a lot about the stories we carry — and how easily one experience can become the story we keep telling ourselves. Sometimes it’s worth looking back at what has become sticky and asking if it still needs to be. ❤️ #yogaoffthemat #evergreenvibesyoga #mindfulliving #personalgrowth #healingthroughexperience by @evergreenvibesyoga
A little reflection as summer begins to fade. 🌱🌷 Grateful for the seeds planted, the things that bloomed, and the people who made this season so special! ❤️ #evergreenvibesyoga #yinyoga #yogaphilosophy #cultivate #yogaphilosophy by @evergreenvibesyoga
