Understanding the Invisible people who make music happen. Hosted by @wesluttrell

POSTS STORIES REELS

I’m so stoked to announce my new “behind-the-scenes of the music business” podcast, Everybody Else: Interviews with the Invisible people who make music happen. Here’s how it came about:

“This podcast was born from a conversation I had with an executive from Sony Music who said, “This call felt like a podcast.” So when I asked, “Why haven’t more people interviewed you?” She replied, “Because no one has asked.” Which blew my mind because for someone (like me) dying to know more about how people across the music industry think and do their work, I thought she had one of the coolest jobs in the world. Then I started thinking who else is out there, working in the background of the some of the biggest, most exciting artist projects of our time who hasn’t shared about their work..or their story. So I started this show as a way to talk with and learn from tech founders, venue managers, coaches, booking agents, and many more; hopefully resulting in a better understanding of music and “the business” for all. There are those in the spotlight, and then there is Everybody Else.”

Dropping the first three episodes next Tuesday, June 10!

Tad is someone I’ve deeply respected since meeting him 3 years ago.

What I knew about him before this podcast was that he’s funny, humble, smart, and a good dad. I knew he works with companies and organizations big and small, local and national, and has a focus on developing effective leaders. I’ve seen him in action as a consultant facilitating a meeting for a leadership group I’m in, which was like watching Scheffler play a round of golf—a pro in his arena of mastery. I’ve even had the pleasure of hearing him lay into an old Celtic tune on his bagpipe while drinking an ice cold Irish stout at Patsy Hartigan’s.

But until this sit down, I’ve not gotten the chance to deeply understand his work and how his background in music, both as a performer and a band/choir director, informs his work in providing strategy and leadership development to some of the top organizations in our region. He’s a quiet man who’s invisible work ripples through the daily life of many, and I’m honored to call him a friend. Enjoy! by @everybodyelsepodcast

My Google Calendar is full of time blocks. It’s a useful way of seeing my day/week/month. But when it comes to sustained energy + focus, something else is needed. I’ve been working on treating my activities (work, podcasts, travel, exercise, meetings, self-care, etc) as “containers”, a mental framework for cleanly storing and organizing my thoughts and focus for sustained, grounded performance across an extended period of time. 🛫

Happy New Year. 🎊

Whatever it is…Go do it, for if not now, when!? by @everybodyelsepodcast

Chloe’s so sick of me playing this song, but when the man himself is the drummer on the track, I can’t help it.

Sandy Gennaro is an amazing human being whose journey in life could easily be a biopic that I’d watch over and over. A practitioner of service, a student of being, and one of the most vibrant people I’ve spent time with.

Full of stories, lessons, and ideas, our episode together is now streaming and was made possible by my friend and Sandy’s incredible daughter @rebelofnyc by @everybodyelsepodcast

Chrystelle has a heart radiating positivity towards the people she serves. It’s no wonder she’s touched hundreds of artists careers as a coach and advisor and created multiple programs in the form of clubs, in-person and online communities, and masterclass resources. All aimed at helping emerging artists find their way in the ever complex and overwhelming pursuit of a career in music. 💿 by @everybodyelsepodcast

Nearly 5 years after moving into our house, I got a call from my next door neighbor’s grandma saying, “my name’s Gale, and I’m a little old lady who sings and writes songs.”

I had no idea that the person on the other line was going to brighten up my perspective on life and music with her absolute love of songs and love of her people.

Gale is herself, through and through, and I’m so glad she sat down with me to tell her story about her life in the Midwest and her late pursuit of the craft that means so much to her.

I included a couple snippets of her past recordings in this episode. Her voice is 💯. by @everybodyelsepodcast

David told me, “it’s all about routines”. High-performers need simple routines to keep them grounded in the moment. Next set, next play, next shot.

Whether the show went great or the night was a total flop, his simple advice to a singer would be something like: keep your wardrobe on and hang in the dressing room until you can feel yourself calming down. Now, once you change clothes, you leave the performance at the venue.

His work is all about helping others drop into the present moment. I absolutely loved talked to him about coaching.

One take away: if you engage honestly and show up committed to the practice, the simple act of sharing where you’re at and what you think about your situation (work, performance, skills) to someone who’s vested in honestly listening to what you’re saying (coach), you can cultivate accountability within yourself and foster a more transparent and honest relationship with reality. Only then can true transformation unfold. by @everybodyelsepodcast

From the moment I first talked to Lauren, I knew she meant business, and her accomplishments over the last decade prove it. Having pushed 33 singles to #1 from some of the greatest artists in modern country music, she’s a powerhouse in radio promo and I’m honored to call her a friend in music. Without her support, I’d have never started this podcast as I got the idea from the conversations I was having with her and her network of great industry friends. I’m grateful she made time during her busy CMA Week to sit down with me in Nashville to record her first ever podcast interview on Everybody Else. Enjoy! 🛫🤠🍻 by @everybodyelsepodcast

At the end of this episode, Chris talked about how one of the greatest gifts of working in music is the opportunity to meet people and build relationships all around the world. I couldn’t agree more. Thanks to Chris for sharing his approach to artist development through music marketing and digital promotion. Putting Manchester on the map! 🌏

And thank you to the kind folks at Symphonic for sponsoring this episode. 🎟️ by @everybodyelsepodcast

One of my favorite interviews yet, my friend and Econ professor, Dr. Perry Burnett unpacks the spiritual journey he’s undergone over the last 3 years after a fateful introduction to Deathcore music—a genre I known almost nothing about. Perry’s enthusiastic energy and bright mind lit up the studio and even gave me a place to work through the concepts of my current coaching and development obsessions. Btw, great work starts with a small obsession. 🛫

Perry and I met at a small, DIY men’s retreat facilitated by the always inspiring @zacparsonsprojects in 2022. I’m grateful to have met a number of now close friends through that powerful experience. by @everybodyelsepodcast

Necessity is the mother of invention, and the Mothership in Mansfield, Ohio is exactly that. Born from the need for a safe place for his son’s band to rehearse, Jeff Ulery turned an old doctors office into what is now a gathering place of making and sharing music in rural Ohio. In the spirit of great music history destinations like Muscle Shoals, Jeff, Nate Daniel, and their spirited bunch of helpers are creating their own scene in a place where people enjoying a real human experience (live music, bonfires, and free hot dogs) come first. Something now attracting bands from all across the country.🎟️

I love the role spots like the Mothership play in the greater musical ecosystem. They represent something old and familiar, a friendly stop between big cities, and perhaps, a friendly stop on an artist’s road to stardom.🛫

Thank you to @symphonicdistro for sponsoring this episode of Everybody Else. 💿 by @everybodyelsepodcast

Humble about his playing, the dude can shred - just listen to that pedal solo on Leo’s “All My Friends”. My friend, and an artist I’ve worked with for the two years, Aaron Mones has been developing his skills on most things stringed over the last two decades playing in different bands, recording on hundreds of tracks, and writing music with his twin bro collaborator, Wyatt. If you’re a musician or guitar player of any level, this is a great listen from someone who’s been on a spiritual journey by way of musical expression. I’m grateful that Aaron opened up and made time for this conversation. ✊🏼 by @everybodyelsepodcast
