Age is just a number, and Carole is proof! 💙🏸 At 76, Carole continues to make a difference through badminton as a player, coach and volunteer, showing that staying active is about so much more than physical health. From boosting her mental wellbeing to building lasting friendships, badminton has brought so much positivity into her life. Her advice? “You’re never too old to try something new.” ✨ Carole’s story is a wonderful reminder that it’s never too late to discover a new passion, meet new people and enjoy the benefits of staying active. 💙 #AgeIsJustANumber #ActiveAgeing #EveryoneActive #PhysicalActivity #Wellbeing by @everyoneactive_basildon
🏸 At 70, Dave is proof that age really is just a number when it comes to staying active, trying new things, and inspiring others. Dave’s love of badminton began at the age of 11 at St Nicholas School, just up the road from Basildon Sporting Village, where his teacher, Pip Rogers, introduced him to the sport. Around 30 years ago, Dave began coaching after regularly playing badminton with his two sons and some of their friends. Since July 2024, Dave has been sharing his passion and experience with the badminton community at Basildon Sporting Village, coaching every Thursday across sessions for children aged 7-12, young people aged 12-15, and adults. For Dave, the greatest reward of coaching is seeing people progress. “I enjoy seeing players improve their skills,” he says. From someone struggling to hit a shuttlecock to eventually playing a competitive game, seeing that journey and hearing a player say, “I enjoyed that,” is what keeps Dave motivated. Staying active is a big part of Dave’s life. As well as badminton, he enjoys swimming, walking, and cycling whenever he gets the chance. He believes regular physical activity makes him feel great, both physically and mentally. To Dave, “Age is Just a Number” is more than a campaign; it’s a way of life. “I will keep playing until I am unable to do so.” His message to anyone in their 60s or 70s who thinks it is too late to start something new is simple: give it a try. Dave encourages people to exercise within their limits and make sure they have the right equipment, footwear, and clothing. He believes Everyone Active’s campaign is important because there should be no barriers to being active, whatever your age. His philosophy is straightforward: “Use it or lose it.” Dave’s story is a brilliant reminder that staying active isn’t about how old you are. It’s about what you can still achieve, the people you can inspire, and the enjoyment you can get from being active. 🏸 by @everyoneactive_basildon
