✨ Pregi: Alta, divertente, super propositiva.

Happy Birthday to my best friend 💙
Can’t believe you are turning 10 this year, and that I used to snuggle you when you were just two and a half!
Even though I’m no longer part of your everyday life, I hold onto the beautiful emotions and the greatest life lessons you’ve ever given me.
Sometimes I still feel a bit stuck in the past: when you needed me for everything, when you’d wake me up with a rose you took from the vase at the bottom of my bed, when you’d headbutt my nose to jump on me, when you’d cry if I left without you. When your big chocolate eyes stared into mine, when you couldn’t pronounce my name yet, when banana was “nanaba”, when we’d argue but couldn’t stay apart, the absolute lack of privacy, the sharing of germs and DNA...
To our quiet little breakfasts, singing together in the car, and the day you invented the word “Coolmazing” when I got all dressed up to go out. How could anyone ask for more?

A friend once told me: “I don’t think I’ve ever experienced true love, but I’m pretty sure what you and Cash have is exactly what true love means.”

Just you and me, boy… always— and maybe your little brother too, when he’s not driving us crazy!

I love you.

I started recording videos of myself crying. I still don’t know exactly why I was filming myself while I wept; I think it was a way to make my pain real because I felt so completely alone in it. I used to think that people who reached the point of taking their own lives just lacked backbone, but then I started ‘imagining’—if that’s the right word—having a car accident on my way to work, depending on which side of the bed I woke up on.

And then one day, I looked at myself in the mirror and I swear I felt trapped in my own body. I saw my reflection looking normal, almost unbothered, but inside I could feel myself screaming, and nobody could hear it. That was the moment I got scared, and I realized I needed help. No matter how many people you have around you—or don’t—it’s not easy to explain, and not everyone has the privilege of waking up from this terrible autopilot.

But I started talking about it to every living soul, in small doses, until I finally understood that, unfortunately, the person I needed the most was myself, and not the person I had by my side.

Of course, there are always bigger problems in the world, and people who have it far worse. If logic alone could heal us, we’d all be happy. But pain isn’t a competition. Sometimes, things that seem trivial to others are heavy enough to completely extinguish your light. What feels easy to fix for someone else might be an insurmountable wall for you—so please, think twice before minimizing what someone is going through.

I want to share this because I know how dark that place can be, but please know I wouldn’t be posting this today if I weren’t in a good place. You can wake up from the autopilot. You can find your way back to yourself.

(Side note: these are videos from over a year ago—it took me a while to finally share them!)

Grazie estate! ☀️
