Took some photos yesterday of another experimental book structure I made at college, this time using some of the paper I made @pulppaperartsworkshop in Glasgow back in June. I made the paper on the first day of the workshop, then used it for lino printing on the second day. Very much enjoying the process and the play of trying out new folds and combinations. #paperart #paperartist #paperartistsofinstagram #orkneyart #orkneyartist by @eviedonaldson_art
Lots of hand-dipped inky watercolour paper prepped today. Messy hands and dirty nails! #paper #paperartist #orkney #orkneyart #orkneyartist by @eviedonaldson_art
Feel like I’m finally getting underway a few weeks into the new term at college. Lots of experimentation with various book folds happening at the moment. #paperfolding #bookfolds #bookarts #orkneyart #orkneyartist by @eviedonaldson_art
Exhausted after a superb day of life drawing in Stromness, courtesy of @royal_scottish_academy and @pierartscentre, all part of the #rsa200 celebrations. Expert tuition in the fundamentals of skeletal and muscular form from George Donald RSA. Thanks to all who made it happen, what an interesting and informative day. #lifedrawing #drawingfromlifemodel #orkneyart #orkneyartist by @eviedonaldson_art
Off today and it was a rare nice day, so I spent the afternoon on the beach in Birsay, doing some mark making, drawing and printing. Lovely way to get some fresh air and top up the vitamin D. The green blob in the first image is Play-Doh, which I used with an ink pad to take some prints directly from the beautiful rocks. #artoutdoors #beachart #orkney #orkneyart #orkneyartist by @eviedonaldson_art
Popped in to Northlight Gallery in Stromness this morning to see the ‘Concrete and Stone’ exhibition by @lazy.photon. Subject matter very close to my heart! Lovely to chat to Mark and highly recommend seeing the show before it closes next Saturday. #concreteandstone #abandonedbuildings #orkney #orkneyart by @eviedonaldson_art
Seeing @juju.books recent post about magnets reminded me that I never posted photos of my own ‘magnetic’ day with her back in June. A super day spent in her Glasgow studio making a steckalbum with a hard cover and magnetic closure. A most enjoyable and versatile structure and such a satisfying ‘click’ when the magnets align. Swipe to the end to check out the old skool snack situation! #bookbinding #steckalbum #magneticclosure #orkneyart #orkneyartist by @eviedonaldson_art
Had a super time today, taking part in one of @lesleymackayart’s sketchbook days. A fine day spent by the sea at Sandside in Deerness with @jannettemacdonald1. Lesley was a patient and encouraging presence and it was lovely to enjoy some relaxed mark making under her direction. Also, turns out I love compressed charcoal - who knew? #sketchbook #sketchbookart #sketchbookdrawing #orkneyart #orkneyartist by @eviedonaldson_art
Lovely change of scenery on Monday night on the annual trip to Eynhallow via Orkney Heritage Society. I’ve never managed to get a ticket before and we had a super night for it. Thanks to @jannettemacdonald1 for joining. Lots of Tammie Norries (Puffins), Scarfs (Cormorants), Solan Geese (Gannets), Pickie Ternos (Arctic Tern) and Selkies (Seals) to keep us company and a lovely walk around the island. Both successfully managed to avoid breaking our ankles on the rummly shore! #eynhallow #orkney #orkneyheritagesociety #uninhabitedisland #lovewhereyoulive by @eviedonaldson_art
Letterpress workshop @soulisquoy with the brilliant and super knowledgeable Edwin Pickstone of @thecaseroomswg3. Thanks to Carol Dunbar for facilitating and to my lovely classmates @ingridbudge2101 and @winging_it_since90s. Lots to think about! #letterpress #letterpressprinting #printmakersofinstagram #orkneyart #orkneyartist by @eviedonaldson_art
What a super weekend I had recently on a long-planned trip to @pulppaperartsworkshop in Glasgow. On the first day Alison took us through paper making, firstly with plain sheets, then through mark making using coloured pulps. Our paper sheets were pressed and dried overnight, then the second day was spent with Elspeth creating a printing plate in lino and using it to print on our papers. A very productive and enjoyable time spent in good company - and lots of paper to use for future projects! #paper #papermaking #paperartist #orkneyart #orkneyartist by @eviedonaldson_art
What a 72 hours it’s been. 😌 At the kind invitation of @markandfold, myself & 9 other paper enthusiasts were given the opportunity to go behind the scenes at 2 paper mills in Cumbria. First, we visited @jamescropperpaper, getting a tour of how they produce their machine made paper, including a session in the colour lab. Later, we walked through beautiful countryside to @paper.foundation to see the process of hand paper making and examine Mark Cropper’s considerable collection of historic papers. Both venues were absolutely fascinating. I can’t thank @amycooperwright enough for this extraordinary experience. Huge thanks also to everyone at James Cropper and Paper Foundation for their generous welcome, for sharing their considerable knowledge & expertise and for answering our many questions. I met such lovely folk, including @helen_mcgowan_ and Ruth from Mark+Fold, @m.zeo, Neil, @buttongrrrl and @jimmarsdenphotography to name just a few. What a trip! #papermaking #papermakingprocess #papermakingcommunity #orkneyartist by @eviedonaldson_art
