T-minus 3 weeks and counting❕@nok.short is making its NYC/ East Coast premiere at @sohofilmfest 🗽🍎🌃 on Friday 9/20 at 9:30PM in Shorts Program: WOOSTER STREET SERIES
.
Every time I assume our short has concluded its film festival run, another fest pops up and breathes new life into our being able to screen for more audiences IRL 😌
.
Especially elated with this one. It’ll be the ultimate nostalgic screening for a host of reasons: as a native New Yorker whose parents were engaged on a Stuy Town bench 40 years ago this September, a 5 min walk away from the movie theatre…We’ll be screening at @villageeastbyangelika , a theatre I walked past en route to class on non-conservatory days junior year of undergrad. Included a tagged map of all my old college haunts circa 2008-2012 near the the cinema: my frosh and soph dorms, the main Tisch building, Strasberg (frosh and soph acting studio), CAP21 (junior year musical theatre studio), and my junior year off campus apartment.
.
Who woulda thunk, all these years later in 2024, the first short film i wore all the hats for 🤪 🥲 would screen in a venue adjacent to so many college memories and story threads of my own upbringing and familial DNA. V stoked to fly home for this one 🫶🏽💙🍿🎞

@nok.short picked up press from our San Francisco screening at the Filipino-American Post. Article available at link in bio.

Thanks for reaching out and giving our film a platform @kyrie_sismaet. Fil-Am IG pamilya: if you’re not familiar with his work, look him up and follow! He’s a dynamic writer that’s equally at home reporting on entertainment, interviewing Michelin-star chefs, and politics — he had a stint on the Hill/ DC with C-Span, where he covered the 2020 Election and 2021 Capitol Insurrection.
.
The best and most fun part of the film festival circuit has def been meeting all the super talented pinxys and learning about all the cool shit we’ve been up to and bad ass ways we endeavor to foster and celebrate community 🥹💪🏽💙🇵🇭🐂 by @exit9film

🙋🏻‍♂️ Such a thrill representing the Hapa Filo-Gaysian agenda ™️ and celebrating Nat’l AAPI Heritage Month by screening @nok.short at CAAMFest 2024. Thanks to the amazing @caamedia team for a truly unforgettable way to [most likely] conclude our festival run.
.
Each curated block has had a unique ebb and flow, and this specific block, Navigating Intimacies, curated by Del Holton, was particularly rewarding. It was entrancing to see an entire block devoted to Asian American characters, who explored intimacy and owned their sexual agency and identities.
.
1.2. Screening theatre @roxie_theater + Q&A Sesh
.
3. Special shout-out to Lina Suh, who screened her feature debut @meetingyou_meetingme, a poignant exploration on friendships that challenge + propel us forward in life. Go follow and watch it!! Lina is the first fellow undergrad @nyutisch alum I met during our west coast run. As amazing as it’s been meeting filmmaker alums from USC, AFI, and UCLA, and although she went to USC for her MFA, I claim her as a Tischie 🐨🍿🎞💜, and all that entails: gallivanting about NYC/ the East Village/ 721 Broadway during undergrad mini-adult years and can relate to the loss of Cafetasia + $5 Pad Thai on Tenth Street (RIP 🍜🕯) by @exit9film

San Francisco/ Bay Area bound! 🥳🇵🇭🌁🍿📽💙🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

#Latergram of NOK’s last screening of the year at SDAFF @pacartsmovement. Big thanks to all the folks at PAC Arts for giving us a platform to showcase our film. Being showcased in a program that specifically featured Asian Am queer and trans short films, felt especially meaningful PS - It was also parents day! My first ever Hollywood nanay met my IRL nanay🍿🎞🏳️‍🌈🇵🇭 by @exit9film

Amidst the uncertainty of the time we’re living in, what centers me and the greatest gift 2023 has brought me, is community. How lucky am I to find others equally committed to our love of stories and organizing together to find ways off screen to leave the world in better shape than when we found it.
.
Such a treat getting to meet so many other Fil-Am filmmakers and also be introduced to the works of all the exceptional filmmakers from the PH.
.
Having our film screen at @sdfilipinocinema and being seated behind two rows of high school students, and seeing them experience it for the first time through their eyes, is an experience I won’t soon forget. Thank you @b3nitobautista and @emmafrancisco + rest of the SDFC team for laboring tirelessly to make sure all filmmakers felt seen and were given a platform. Looking forward to the next time our paths cross and rooting for you and your team’s many future successes! 🎞💙🇵🇭🐃 by @exit9film
