Our fifth studio album “My Last To Shine” was recorded during multiple recording sessions between May and July of 2026. During that time our friend Abi Belcheva from ‪@hatecitychronicles‬ was with us documenting all the silly, funny, stupid, and also some serious moments of the recording process. Watch the full video on our YouTube channel - the link is in the bio. by @expectationshardcore

Sofia melodic hardcore band @expectationshardcore have been at it since 2009, and their fifth album, "My Last Time to Shine", might well be their last. Originally planned as "99% Love", the record gets into family, broken friendships, trust, guilt and trying to sort your own shit out. It's also the first album made with what the guys consider their best lineup yet. Released through Balkan Sprachbund and Bound By Modern Age Records, with guest appearances from members of @lasthopehardcore and @oddcrew_official, and mixing and mastering by @marius.costache148.

We had a long conversation with Mihail, Angel and Georgi about the new songs, growing up around Bulgarian hardcore, their early DIY booking days, recording with friends in Romania, and the people who've kept Expectations going. The three don't see everything eye to eye, especially when it comes to hardcore culture, politics, moshing and what's been happening at gigs in Sofia. We got into all of that, along with the very personal story behind "Say Hello".

Then we caught up again after their nine-day tour with @madballnyc, @desolatedinc and @combustnyhc. Younger kids skateboarding in the pit in Bucharest, arguments between generations in Sofia, nights spent driving across borders, hanging out with bands they grew up listening to, and some really personal moments at the merch table. The guys gave us plenty to get into.

Our full, in-depth feature is now up on IDIOTEQ📃com

🎸The night kicked off with Expectations, a melodic hardcore band from Sofia, Bulgaria, formed in 2009. Their sound combines the fast-paced bursts and aggression of hardcore with melodies and emotional vocals. Through this blend, they have managed to build their own identity within the European hardcore scene.

🎵On Saturday, despite being the opening band, they managed to channel their energy from the stage to the crowd from very early on. The pit and the first mosh sessions didn’t take long to get started, as is often the case at hardcore shows. It doesn’t take much, just people who have come to live in the moment.

💥Expectations made a strong start to the night, bringing a solid dose of hardcore energy before the rest of the show unfolded. by @expectationshardcore

Our tour with @madballnyc @desolatedinc and @combustnyhc is done now. Thanks to everyone who showed up, moshed and sang along. It was an incredible experience to travel and share the stage each night with these bands and the rest of the team. We made memories and friendships we would carry along for many years to come. Thanks to our man @uglyandproudrecs for being the best driver / merch guy / storyteller out there. We can’t wait to see you all again! ❤️ by @expectationshardcore
