Total Expenses Vanlife Norway and SwedenπŸ’Έ I spent roughly 13 weeks in Scandinavia, 56 days in Norway, 31 days in Sweden. Somewhere in between, I also went back to the Netherlands for a week by plane (not included in these numbers). Here’s the breakdown: Diesel:€1,475 total – about €454/month Groceries: €855 total – about €263/month Ferries: €305 total – about €94/month Restaurants & cafΓ©s: €190 total – about €59/month Shopping: €135 total – about €42/month Gifts: €130 total – about €40/month Campings: €65 total – about €20/month Motorbike rides: €45 total – about €14/month Parking:€45 total – about €14/month Gas (for cooking/heating): €40 total – about €12/month Activities:€40 total – about €12/month Grand Total: €3,325. That’s about €1,023 per month So what do you think… was it cheap or expensive? For anyone who is interested: A Little Context 🚐 Fuel was by far my biggest cost – not a surprise for vanlife, since I drove 10.537 kilometers in total. πŸ₯¦ Groceries come next, but here’s the trick: before heading to these pricey countries, I packed my van with a stash of long-lasting food. I did count those costs here, but obviously it saved me money compared to buying everything in Sweden or Norway. I cook (almost) every day, I rarely eat meat or bread, and while fresh veggies can be pricey, this kept my food budget manageable. Household items (like toilet paper) are included here too, since I buy them with groceries anyway. ⛴️ For ferries, I took the β€œcheap” ones: Rostock β†’ Trelleborg on the way in, and Larvik β†’ Hirtshals on the way back. Inside Norway, I only used the free ferries. πŸ›οΈ For my standards, I did quite a bit of shopping – I got myself a hiking pants, a merino wool sweater, a headband, and a few little things. πŸ•οΈ Accomodation was almost for free, just two nights on campsites, the rest was wild camping. Occasionally I used campsite facilities like a washing machine. 🎟️ Activities? I managed to experience a lot without paying entry fees. Sometimes I considered it, but in the end I had plenty of adventures without extra costs. by @explore_the_different
#vanlifemagazine by @explore_the_different
