New arrival of the day: The Nerves “Best Collection” 2xLP on Third Man Records. Formed in San Francisco by the late Jack Lee (guitar), Peter Case (bass), and Paul Collins (drums) in 1974 and later based in Los Angeles, The Nerves proved – for but a brief, shining moment – one of the most exhilarating and influential bands in the annals of power pop, bridging proto-punk energy and jangly melodies with a fierce DIY spirit. Boasting three incredibly gifted songwriters, the band made rock ‘n’ roll history with their eponymous 1976 EP , released on Greg Shaw’s iconic Bomp! Records label and featuring four now-classic tracks including Lee’s “Hanging on the Telephone,” made famous, of course, two years later by Blondie on their breakthrough third album, Parallel Lines. Without any record company support, The Nerves took the bull by the horns and booked their own national tour – unheard of in those days – and traveled across America playing shows with such peers as Devo, Pere Ubu, DMZ, and the Ramones. 27,000 miles later, the band returned to L.A. and recorded what would’ve been their next single, “One Way Ticket” and “Paper Dolls,” but alas, that old demon, creative differences, interceded and The Nerves called it a day before the punk and new wave explosion that might’ve made them household names. Case and Collins carried on as The Breakaways, recording a number of songs originally intended for The Nerves and included on The Nerves – Best Collection before themselves imploding. All three founding members of The Nerves went on to lead their own singular careers, Lee as a songwriter and solo artist, Case both with The Plimsouls and his own acclaimed solo body of work, and Collins as frontman of The Beat and The Paul Collins Beat. Now, five decades after leaving their fleeting but everlasting mark, The Nerves – Best Collection does long overdue justice to a landmark canon of truly terrific rock ‘n’ roll songs, finally remastered and united on Third Man’s definitive edition. #extremenoiserecords #thenerves #thirdmanrecords #punkrecords #diypunk by @extremenoisempls

New arrival of the day: Heavens To Betsy “Baby’s Gone” LP on Kill Rock Stars Records. It’s a modern miracle the band’s 35-year-old baby’s gone cassette demos were ever found, let alone digitized, and can be shared with a generation fighting for their rights. Just as heavens to betsy was an outlet for Corin and Tracy to express the issues on their mind as young women in the ‘90s, it was also a place for them to process trauma while giving other women a safe space to unpack theirs. Their rebellious, trailblazing voices helped bring awareness to important issues still permeating American politics today such as the pervasiveness of rape culture, discussions of intersectional politics and body shaming as well as celebrating female friendships, queerness and the strength of community. #extremenoiserecords #heavenstobetsy #killrockstarsrecords #punkrecords #diypunk by @extremenoisempls
New arrival of the day: Osees “Off Course” LP and CD on Deathgod Corp. “We went back to an older method of writing for this one. We jammed and jammed and jammed. I took the tapes home and ironed out some mutant tunes. We went back into the studio and burned them to tape live and then I took it home to Stu-Stu-Studio and did the vocals and bought in Tom Dolas & Brigid Dawson to put the finish on. Spice is always nice.   Mixed it all up in the cauldron and thus we have a strange brew indeed Floating in the smoke we have: A couple long jams, a couple short jams and a finale that’ll dump a bucket of ear worms on you (reminiscent of “the axis”?) Dip your toe in organ rock and roll   So without further ado We present to you “OFF COURSE”  An album wondering where the fuck are we and how did we get here   A signal dispatched out into the darkness   We are here We are alive And we are together     CHEERS NO EARS JPD/DG/OSEES” #extremenoiserecords #osees #deathgodcorp #punkrecords #diypunk by @extremenoisempls

New arrival of the day: Fake Names “Punk Ruins” LP on Epitaph Records. Punk supergroup FAKE NAMES return with Punk Ruins, their third studio album, out October 23 on Epitaph Records. Bringing together five architects of punk and hardcore, they channel decades of experience into a sound that feels immediate, electric and entirely their own. Built on the collision of ’70s UK punk, classic hardcore and guitar-driven power-rock, Punk Ruins pushes their chemistry further than ever, balancing sharp melodic instincts with explosive guitars, driving rhythms and the restless energy that defines great punk rock. Formed in 2016, the band began as what Brian Baker calls a “mutual admiration society.” Fake Names features Brian Baker, Michael Hampton, Dennis Lyxzen, Johnny Temple and Mario Rubalcaba—five influential musicians whose combined history spans decades of underground and alternative music. #extremenoiserecords #fakenames #epitaphrecords #punkrecords #diypunk by @extremenoisempls
