I live in Washington State. A land of small coastal towns, islands, tall trees and glacier covered mountains, but there is more. So much more. This is a solitairey abandoned highway disappearing into a lonely desert.

Welcome to the Pacific Northwest.

I love photographing environmental portraits, especially with humans doing cool stuff. I love photographing flowers too, but if that was all I did, it would be pretty boring.

This photograph might explain why I have a high camera mortality rate.

I photograph a lot of cars, but his one is different. This one is mine. I would not have bought this for myself, Im more of a four-wheeler off road kind of guy. Also, it doesn't hold a lot of camera gear.

When my dad was alive, he would never let me drive it. Now, I can drive it every day. I'd love to give it back to him.

I love this photograph, but its killing me that I don't have the front wheels turned to the left. What was I thinking?

Bad Photographer, no donut!

I made this photograph in Masa Verde in the early 1990's. This was my first road trip with my newly purchased Bronica SQ-A I bought it used. The film is Kodachrome.

Kodachrome was the premiere professional film, characterized by producing sharp photographs with brilliant color. It was the go to film for publication. All the big time Photographers used Kodachrome. Think Steve McCurry and Pete Turner as notable examples. So naturally I had to photograph with Kodachrome too.

Sadly, Kodak discontinued Kodachrome in the 120 format a few years after I made this photograph.

Also, access to walk where I made this photograph is now prohibited. It has disappeared just like Kodachrome.

This person appears to be a part of a shadowy Photography Mafia family. Ready to kick butt and carry my ratty and worn-out light stand bag.

This is my good friend Steve Chisholm who agreed to assist me photographing a wedding. Of course he would take the opportunity to ham it up, his sense of humor is unmatched.

Steve was one of the most amazing people I knew. He has gone through a lot, but no matter how bad things were, he was always gracious and positive. I once asked him how he could be so positive and he simply said, "the alternative is worse".

Steve battled cancer for two years, but he never let on how bad it was. The last time I talked to him he was positive, cheerful and hamming it up as always. I was shocked to hear he had passed.

I think of Steve often and try to live by his words, the alternative is worse.

These two photographs are mistakes. I so screwed up! Hey, I'm only human!

I was shooting faster than my strobe could recharge, so no flash. The results? Kind of a cool silhouette.

Next week, I'll show how I screwed up my taxes. Consider it a public service.

I was at a friend's office who is a NASCAR fan and had these models on his desk. I instantly knew what had to be done! I put the models on the floor so I can photograph them looking down. Of course I had a camera with me, I'm a Photo Geek Camera Nerd, what did you expect?

I put the models back without my friend noticing the violation of his property. I then I photographed the intersection background.

Yes, Photographers have a sense of humor, its just a acquired taste, like brussel sprouts.

No AI was harmed in the making of this photograph!

I have complicated relationship with landscape photography. Somehow in 1983 I was exposed to Ansel Adam's work and thought, cool! It was the 80's, that was how I talked back then.

My own landscape photography falls way short of Mr. Adams inspiration.

Todays post is sort of okay.
