Take a bite out of hunger. Everything about eating healthy and sustainable 🌱🥗🧑🏽‍🌾
POSTS STORIES REELS
July is already here ✨ Eating locally can be more climate friendly, healthy and is supporting your local economy. There can be situations, where imported food can be more climate friendly (f.e. if local food was storage in cold warehouses). But in general, local food can have many advantages 🌾 Pamela took a deeper look into local fruits and vegetables like Shambahuro, Masekesa (Piliostigma thonningii), Magwingwiziri, Hubva (Vitex payos), Matohwe (Azanza garckeana). Indigenous fruits are abundant in Zimbabwe yet the average Zimbabwean knows very little about their nutritional value in her opinion. The last days we had amazing and nutritious food here in Kigali 😊 We are very thankful and want to share some of the dishes with you as we think that Rwandan cuisine is unfortunately often not well known. Will you cook these dishes at your home? 🍽 #rwandanfood #recipes #cookingideas by @fadhala_zerohunger
How does farming in Zimbabwe works and what plants are getting used? @eltonmukodzo answered our questions: "Farming for me comes out as a passion. Currently I am finishing my degree in Forensic Science. I am mainly based in market gardening, horticulture to be specific (cabbages, lettuces, onions, vegetables, tomatoes, beetroot and broccoli). I rotate these plants on a small free piece of land just outside our yard. I live in Hatcliffe Borrowdale so there are red soils which are favorable for this type of produce and Harare is region 2 so it also supports market gardening. I use borehole water from my house most part of the year until it is rain season." 🌾🌱 #farming #zimbabwe #harare by @fadhala_zerohunger
The goal of Food Security is to promote and ensure adequate food and nutrition security for all people at all times. This week we look into Farming and Gardening projects in Zimbabwe. Food is an essential Part of Zimbabwean culture and identity which plays a significant roll in shaping the country´s Heritage, Tradition and History. Food has been and is still in many different cultures, nationalities e.t.c a significant aspect of socializing , symbolic importance that signifies a sense of Unity, showing that people from different walks of life can come together and share meals and exchange cultural ideas. This is Sadza (maize meal) served with muboora ( pumpkin leaves) and with a delicious example of a stew you can add to the meal. Some prefer the dish with roasted or cooked Fish. #foodsecurity #zimbabwe #recipe #sdgs by @fadhala_zerohunger
What topics do you find interesting regarding food? We are happy to hear from you! The next weeks we will discuss farming with a focus on Zimbabwe and urban gardening with a focus on South Africa. Within the next weeks you will find more information about us in the stories and we will report from our SDG training course in Kigali, which we are very excited about! by @fadhala_zerohunger
Do you know why we speak about security when speaking about the access to food? Food security means that people have long time sufficient and affordable access to healthy food. As 9 percent of the world’s population suffer from chronic hunger it is important to talk more about SDG 12 zero hunger. Do you think the definition from the Worldbank is accurate? Thank you for visiting our profile! Our project is called Fadhala wich means food in Xhosa. And this is what we are talking about here! Did you ever wondered how to eat more sustainable, healthy and climate friendly? What food security means? How we can address nutrition and how we can build a network to improve access to food? We are a group of three people, Pamela, Siyanda and Kathrin from South Africa, Zimbabwe and Germany. Our backround is in activism, art, education, health sector and politics. We are working independent but are currently participating a mentoring program by the African-German Youth Office. We are glad you found your way to our page and that you are joining us on a journey to get more knowledge about food and to become active in this matter 💚 by @fadhala_zerohunger
