New pinned post. 📌

I figured it's time to reintroduce myself. Hi, I'm Roan (aka J. R. Silverman). If you enjoy dark fantasy novels exploring trans rage, slow burn romance, and bold narrative choices, then you might enjoy my WIP, SHRIKE & THORN. 🐺🔮 I post about my writing journey, my art, and my favorite books.

I spent my early 20s aiming to be traditionally published, then spent 4 years in fandom after experiencing burn out in multiple areas. For the past 2 years, I've been working on my epic fantasy project that has lived in my head since I was 13. My goal is to TRY trad pub again, but I'm keeping my options open and expectations realistic.

I'm most active on bsky under the name "faindriart". 🐺 Thanks for checking out my page!

🐺 Cleaning up some old posts and replacing them with new ones. So here's a reintroduction to the main pair in my WIP fantasy novel, SHRIKE & THORN.

Both of these characters have lived in my head since I was 13, but they've evolved and changed so much since then. In the modern iteration, Narok is a monster hunter/mercenary. He's autistic, trans, and demisexual. Kasandra is a bisexual nepo baby who grows on him like mold. They are idiot 4 idiot fr.

☆PITCH☆

After his closest friend is murdered, a holy monster hunter teams up with a disguised princess from a rival religious order to uncover the culprit, only to find himself caught in the crosshairs of a far greater political scheme.

☆DYNAMICS☆

- forbidden romance
- reluctant allies-to-what are we
- slow burn
- all the yearning
- introvert × extrovert
- they save/protect each other

☆COMPARABLE PAIRINGS☆

- Odysseus × Penelope
- Geralt × Yennefer (Witcher)
- Fi × Antal (Voidwalker duology)
- Percy × Vex (so I've been told; I haven't consumed Critial Role content)

New pinned post with updated graphics. 🐺🔮

This is my passion project since summer 2024, though the characters have lived in my head since 2008 when I was 13/14 years old. It is currently a planned trilogy that will expand into a longer series (5-6 books total). I've spent most of 2026 working on tbe first rewrite. In an ideal timeline, I will be sending it off to alpha/beta readers in early 2027. 👍

October reads recap! As usual, only included my favorite reads.

You can tell time has been limited for me this month due to the new job bc I only finished 7 books, and I read more physical than audio for once!!

I'm going to finish Assassin's Quest hopefully today or tomorrow too.

What was your favorite October read? 👀

I hate living in this timeline, and I feel like the oldest man in the world.

I do not begrudge anyone who is leaving Instagram over this btw. I just don't want to lose track of anyone either! The splintering of online creative communities has done so much harm to all of us. As much as I hated Tw*tter too, at least that's where everyone WAS.

Ultimately, do what you can to fight AI and keep moving forward. 💪

I wanted to talk about themes today. ✨️

I don't set out to write specific themes when I start drafting. I like to let the work develop on its own like some terrible ugly baby. It isn't until the 2nd or 3rd draft that I really start understanding what I'm trying to say with my work. (Or what the characters are saying lol)

So here's some patterns I've noticed that keep coming up in S&T and its planned sequels. There are probably more I'm not seeing yet, and I'll be very interested in what readers notice in the future.

IT'S DONE. I'M FREE.

By the skin of my teeth, I've finished the rewrite. Thank you to everyone who has been following along on this journey with me. There's been so many ups and downs. Many days where I wondered if I would ever finish or if what I'm writing is even worth it.

For now, I'm going to take a writing break and focus on my new job. 💚

My September reading stats! This was a really good month for me. I've been on a bit of a dinosaur kick this month, hence my nonfiction reads. 🦖

I have some potential big life changes happening in October, which would greatly affect my hobby time, so you might see less of me for a bit. Cross your fingers (it's good news). 🎃

Got the idea for this post from @juniperkade.writes, who made something similar! I had to try it out for Shrike & Thorn. It was harder than I thought because I tend to overthink these things. 😅

Book 2 Narok with Coen (Dawnwalker)'s man bun.

I started watching a playthrough of Dawnwalker right after finishing the portraits in the second image and was like "gdi I gotta give Narok a top knot now". He's supposed to be crusty in book 2, but I keep making him prettier. 😔
