Happy Sunday #bookstagram! 🍂

I’m somewhat late to the party but as the end of the year is fast approaching, I’m prioritising some books my #TBRlist for the end of the year. 📚

I’m always distracted by flashy new releases so there is quite a few of those, but trying to squeeze in a bulky classic, fantasy that’s been on my TBR for 15 years and which, I suspect, might appear in a TBB subscription soon 👀, as well as continuing a beloved series.

What are some books on your end of the year list? 📖

Happy 40th Anniversary to the best musical ever made, The Phantom of the Opera! 🎭 🥀 @phantomopera

This story has been part of my life for 19 years. It started with the 2004 film and quickly spiralled into a full-blown obsession with the stage show, music, Gaston Leroux’s novel, relentless research and hunting down obscure companion books and retellings across countries, including Susan Kay’s Phantom, one of my all-time favourites. 🎶 💔

In 2011 I begged my mum to take me to London to see Love Never Dies with the incomparable @raminkarimloo and @officialsierraboggess. I completely fell in love with the city which influenced my decision to move here in 2014. 🥰

It’s a story I keep returning to and changes with me as I get older. My interpretations and sympathies have shifted over the years, and I certainly don’t see these characters at 33 the way I did as a teenager.

My @easton_press edition of Leroux’s novel is my most treasured book, gifted by my boyfriend and made even more precious by everything he went through to get it for me. ❤️

Not to be dramatic (although surely Phantom is the place for it), but this story has genuinely shaped parts of my life. It introduced me to musical theatre, extraordinary art, and brought me countless core memories, including scaring my 3 year old sister when I watched the film with her. 😂 👀

@penchant4words’s Our Strange Duet, a charming retelling from Christine’s perspective, has recently transported me straight back to the nostalgic heights of my 2008–2012 Phantom era. 😍

My point is, I’m a bit of a Phan. 🤷‍♀️

It’s impossible to put into words what this story has meant to me or how much it continues to give me. I’m so excited to be celebrating its 40th year at His Majesty’s Theatre tonight (and tomorrow!), having somehow snagged tickets to the anniversary gala. 🤯

Congratulations to @alwmusicals @lwentertainment and the countless performers and creatives who have kept the chandelier falling for four decades. ❤️ 🕯️

Happy October — or, as I call it, the Daphne-du-Maurier Season. 👻📚

What atmospheric, gothic or downright scary reads are on your October TBR? And may I entice you to try some Daphne du Maurier - Queen of Atmosphere, Compelling Characters and Making You Deeply Suspicious of Everyone? 👀

Since reading Rebecca for the first time last year, I’ve been making my way through her works: My Cousin Rachel, The Scapegoat and, most recently, Jamaica Inn - a perfectly unsettling read for this time of year. 🌊 🏴‍☠️

So naturally, during our Cornwall road trip in August, I had to flaunt my Daphne fealty in my @girlsontopstees with a pit stop at the iconic @jamaicainncornwall which inspired the novel. Perched on Bodmin Moor and seemingly in the middle of nowhere, the inn is huge, eerie and apparently haunted? Though I can’t confirm. 😁 There’s even a little Daphne du Maurier and Smugglers Museum. 😍

I’m also very happy that @viragopress is rereleasing du Maurier’s works in their new matching Modern Classics paperback design because, like Pokémon, I shall catch them all. 🥰

What’s your favourite du Maurier / which one is calling your name? Has anyone got a favourite short story of hers to recommend?

Hello #bookstagram! 👋

Today, I present to you 2 proofs:

1. The proof of true love ❤️ : when your boyfriend enters a raffle and WINS your most anticipated book of the year 🤯 😍 🥰 suffice to say, we’re still in shock and giddy with excitement. Love you @nazhyth 😘

2. The motherfreaking proof of WOLVES OF WAR ⚔️, @john_gwynne_author’s latest epic fantasy releasing in November!!!!! is in my library now?????? Whaaaat?!?? This book apparently features wolves 🐺, witches 🧙 and Slavic folklore 🫶 which, as someone from a Slavic country, I can’t wait for! 🙌

Thank you so so so much from both of us @imaginarium.books, @orbitbooks_uk and @john_gwynne_author. 🙏
I promise you, this could not have come to a more enthusiastic household - as Gwynne superfans, we literally own a triple Gwynne signed Fury of the Gods ⚔️ 😁 @the_brothers_gwynne 👀

Hi #bookstagram! 👋

Here is another favourite author appreciation post - on Friday I had the pleasure to see the wonderful @fonda.lee, A. S. Tamaki and Mina Ikemoto Ghosh talk about Samurai in fantasy while promoting The Last Contract of Isako and The Book of Fallen Leaves. ⚔️

While I haven’t read the Book of Fallen Leaves yet,
Isako is one of the most unique genre blenders I’ve ever read and certainly the most fun and badass corporate cyberpunk thriller you can imagine. Fonda’s signature talent for developing wonderfully nuanced characters operating along blurred moral lines, and plot with twists and turns galore is once again at full display. The new planet setting is vivid, immersive and intricate. I wish this was adapted into a high-budget, high-stakes cyberpunk TV series - something in the vein of Succession meets Blade Runner. Highly recommend it! ⭐⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Fonda has also signed the remainder of my collection, including my favourite novella Untethered Sky and her poignant, witchy twist on the Raven included in @thelockedlibrary’s Book of Witches.🧙 🐦‍⬛

Thanks to the wonderful panel of authors, @orbitbooks_uk and @waterstonestcr for hosting!

This was one of 3 author events I attended in the last month, so it’s been a busy one! Have you met any authors this year? ✍️

Hello #bookstagram! 👋

Hope everyone is enjoying what has been a delightfully sunny weekend in the UK. ☀️

The highlight of mine has been finishing Fool’s Quest by Robin Hobb, the penultimate book in her 16 book overarching Realm of the Elderlings made up of 5 ‘mini-series.’ Don’t think this series needs any introduction as it has had quite the social media resurgence in the last 3 years.

I’ve started the Farseer trilogy in the covid era (2020) and have been slowly savouring it since. Liveship Traders had been on my tbr since 2010 (!) when I wanted to read more nautical fantasy and it’s become one of my favourite series of all time.

The last trilogy and Fool’s Quest specifically follow our protagonist Fitz in his later years with more royal shenanigans, trauma, nostalgic coziness of the setting, as well as relentless brutality of the world and reminders of love lost. I don’t think I can give anything away about 15th book in a series other than what a knockout of a book it was, and the ending! 🤯 🐝 🐺

I was rather lukewarm on Fool’s Assassin (#14) because of its lack of plot movement and repetition in the first 80%. This book included a lot more of what I love about this series - character and relationship study, lore deep dives, court politics and old favourites returning. 😍

I have very bittersweet feelings about starting the last book Assassin’s Fate as this has been a reading journey like no other. I have managed to find a signed secondhand copy that I will treasure forever. 💕

What is your favourite series in the ROTE?

Hello #bookstagram! 👋

In case you’re tired of seeing all the Project Hail Mary on your feeds 👀 (which I’m definitely not), feast your eyes on the latest art work that is @bewitched.pages edition of The Night Prince by @laurenpauthor. 😍 👏

Their editions just keep getting better and better. Can’t wait to display this in my library! 📚 🐺.

Hope everyone is having a good week! What are you currently reading? I’m about a quarter through A Drop or Corruption by @r.jackson.bennett which is excellent so far! 💕

P R O J E C T H A I L M A R Y 🚀 🪨 Swipe for premiere pics 👀 🍿

I was super lucky to attend the #ProjectHailMary World Premiere on Monday which I’ve been highly anticipating since it was announced. 🌌

I’m pleased to say that the movie is ⭐ AMAZE AMAZE AMAZE ⭐ and one of the most faithful adaptations I’ve seen. It retains the heart, spirit and humour of the novel while delivering an incredible visual (and audio!) spectacle. Ryan Gosling is fantastic as Ryland Grace and his relationship with the other leading character translated to the screen SO WELL. 💫 Also shout out to Daniel Pemberton’s score which has been stuck in my mind since Monday. 🎶
I truly believe this is a new modern classic for generations to come and can’t wait to see it again. 🥰

Have you read Project Hail Mary and are you going to see the film? It’s out in cinemas on Fri 20th March. 🪨

Happy new year #bookstagram! 🥂 🥳

While 2025 has been one of the worst and saddest years for me personally, at least I’ve read some pretty good books. Here is my year in review:

📚 I finished 45 books!
📚 2 of my favourites of the year were by @richardswanauthor 🐺
📚 I discovered 2 new favourite classics authors - Daphne Du Maurier and Dorothy Whipple
📚 In an unpopular opinion, I vastly prefer Three Body Problem to The Dark Forest which has an insufferable protagonist and rushes through the coolest parts of the book 🤷‍♀️
📚 I finished Rain Wild Chronicles which means I only have the Fitz and the Fool trilogy left of the Realm of the Elderlings 🥲
📚 I started 13 new series, intending to continue with only 7 👀
📚 I mostly read audiobooks 🎧
📚 Acquired over 100 new books in my library 🤓 😅

How was your bookish 2025? What books surprised you and which let you down?

Wishing everyone a happy new year and all the best in 2026! 🎉
