Ramadhan this year feels different even more so Eid. It just doesn't feel right to celebrate Eid while witnessing the genocide before our own eyes. Definitely the hardest Ramadhan and Eid of all times. This Syawal also taught us to be grateful for our families and friends. I didn't splurge much for this Eid as I did in previous years. Keep reminding myself to control my nafs but we do necessary shopping especially for kids.

"Nostalgia" is our theme for this year. I usually play with color coding theme but this year I wanted to do more of a "real" theme instead of pure "color-theme". Most of the deco stuff seen here were repurposed (those bamboo hats are from our recent trip to Saigon 😅). Despite less spending, we enjoyed our Raya nonetheless, to the fullest 🥰 It proofs that Eid celebrations doesn't necessarily need to be overspending.

I hope it's not too late to wish everyone, Eid Mubarak!🌙 May our deeds get accepted and that we get another chance to see another Ramadhan, إِنْ شَاءَ ٱللَّٰهُ 🤲🏻 May Lord grant ease to Palestinians and others that being oppressed 🤲🏻

For the longest time, I thought sourdough just wasn't for me, not because I didn't love it, but because everyone made it sound like it came with a hundred rules😅

When I got my bread maker, I made it my little mission to see how many of those "must-dos" I could break. Room temp starter? Nope. Stretch and folds every few hours? Nope. Preheated Dutch oven? Nope. Spending days making one loaf? Also nope.

I just wanted sourdough that fit my life, not the other way around.

After lots of experimenting (and a few questionable loaves 🤣), I think I finally found a method that works for me. And honestly? Making sourdough has never felt this fun 🥹

Same Day Bake Recipe:
⏰ 1000 PM: Add n mix ingredients: 65 g active starter, 250 g water, 400 g bread flour, 10 g salt
⏰ 1015 PM: Knead for 8 min. Scrape down corners for first 5 min. Cover with plastic, lid open, unplug BM & leave overnight
⏰ 530 AM: Remove from the BM pan, stretch, shape & transfer to a bowl. Cover with a damp cloth
⏰ 545 AM: Ready for final proof about 45 min. Preheat oven
⏰ 630 AM: Score & bake at 220 celcius. 35 min covered, 20 min uncovered or until golden brown
⏰ 725 AM: Cool & enjoy!

I genuinely can't believe it took me this long to buy a bread machine... especially when it only cost me +-RM100?! 😭 Why did nobody tell me this little machine could make brioche, sourdough (YES!), English muffin bread and so many other types of bread & cake at home with almost zero effort?! 😍

No stand mixer.
No complicated kneading.
No oven.

Just dump everything into the bread pan, press a button, walk away... and a few hours later your house smells like a bakery🥹

And can we talk about the cleanup? You literally only have one bread pan to wash. Honestly... this such a game changer! Literally been one of my favourite kitchen purchases ever.

After way too many bread experiments, this is the recipe I keep coming back to because it's so fluffy and ridiculously reliable:

My Foolproof Bread Machine Recipe (strictly follow this order):
• Whole milk: 50 g (warm)
• Unsalted butter (before melt weight): 60 g (melted & cooled)
• Large eggs: 2 (lightly whisked)
• Bread flour: 210 g
• Skim Milk powder: 10 g (optional, but highly recommended for extra protein and an even softer loaf. In this video I didn't use milk powder and yet SO fluffy!)
• Sugar: 20 g
• Salt: 2 g
• Instant yeast: 1 tsp (about 4 g)

Bread machine setting:
- Menu: Sweet Bread
- Weight: 500 g
- Color: Light (or Medium if you like a slightly thicker crust)

My favourite finishing touch: Brush the loaf with butter immediately after baking. It's a classic bakery trick that softens the crust, gives it a gorgeous shine, and makes it taste extra buttery.

Let it cool for about 10 minutes before slicing (if you can resist 😌).

One thing that completely changed my baking: measure in grams, not cups. A cup of flour can vary by 20–40 g depending on how it's scooped, which is more than enough to affect your bread. A kitchen scale removes the guesswork, so your loaves turn out much more consistently.

I don't think I'll ever go back to buying regular sandwich bread again ❤️ Pls try and let me know! ☺️ by @farmhouseandus

No trip to Taiwan is complete without a visit to its famous convenience stores, especially the themed outlets featuring Sanrio, Pokémon, Kanahei, and many more!

Here’s a quick and easy guide to finding halal-friendly options at Taiwan’s convenience stores for your next adventure🇹🇼

Where’s my fellow “Meteor Garden” era? 🙈 Are you Team Dao Ming Si or Team Hua Ze Lei? 😆 LOL

Anyway, there’s so much to explore in Taiwan. This video highlights the southern part of the island. Here are some of my personal recommendations:

📍 Pier-2 Art Center - Hamasen Railway Cultural Park - Former British Consulate at Takow
📍 E-DA Theme Park
📍 Dragon and Tiger Pagodas at Lotus Pond - Spring and Autumn Pavilions
📍 Formosa Boulevard Station
📍 Totoro Tunnel
📍 Kaohsiung Mosque - halal foods available nearby
📍 Sanfong Temple

Depositing more memories because we’ll never be this age again 🥹

Four trips to South Korea, two to Japan, one to Hong Kong, and a year spent living in China. Just one final piece of the map left to complete the lower arc of East Asia. Any guesses? 😉
