POSTS STORIES REELS

These 3 slides have been created using text from pages 1 and 2 of Femicide Zine: Issue 9, and they have been resized to fit a digital format.

A similar text regarding the issue of femicide and resources available to assist those affected by gender-related abuse and discrimination was included towards the beginning of Issue 7. However, I failed to mention the title of the zine, which I hope to clarify here.

Recently I’ve had some questions about the title of the zine, and I thought that this was important to reflect on and share. I’m very grateful for the feedback from everyone who sees this project, and I want this to be a space where we’re all on the same page, and everyone is properly represented.

Back in 2023 the proceeds from Issue 4 were donated to Women's Health Alliance and we managed to raise $250. The zine was a lot cheaper for me to produce then, as the number of submissions was significantly lower. As the zine has gained more contributors, I haven't been financially secure enough to donate the entire proceeds of an issue since then (this is a self-funded project), but this is a practice that I would like to restart. Issue 9 will be an A4 sized publication, with upwards of 240+ pages, it's important to me that everyone's submission is displayed properly and that the outcome is high-quality - this is why the other %50 will be to cover printing and shipping.

For all other previous issues, the money made from the zine only ever covers the cost of printing and shipping, this project has never made a significant profit as that has never been the aim, and any money made over the printing costs goes towards the next one. I feel that this part of the process should be open to everyone.

I’m unsure if it’s always clear, but everything related to this project (other than submitted work, of course) is made by one person – Instagram content and interactions, emails, publication design, the website, shipping, etc.

This project is bigger than I ever thought it would be and has grown considerably in the past few weeks, so I really appreciate your patience.

Thanks for reading,

Stall Spotlight: Established in 2021 as a one-off college project, Femicide Zine is an independent, Intersectional Feminist zine focusing on alternative art, culture, and music. Originally inspired by the zines of the 90’s Riot Grrrl movement, Femicide Zine features artwork, writing, and interviews from creatives across the globe, with nothing being ‘too much’ to print. Over the past 5 years, Femicide Zine has served as a space to build community, speak with total freedom, and use art, music, and culture as an outlet. To further push this, half of the proceeds made from Femicide Zine: Issue 9 will be donated to Women’s Aid, a charity that provides support and additional services for women and children who’ve experienced abuse and raises awareness on gender-based crime. This issue of the zine will be released in October in time for Notts Zine Fest ’26.

The zine is available in several physical and online zine libraries worldwide, such as the Grrrl Zine Library, The Old Waterworks in Southend-On-Sea, and the Reed College Library in Portland, USA.

AN ESSAY IS NOT A CONSEQUENCE.

AN ESSAY IS NOT AN APOLOGY.

AN ESSAY DOES NOT ERASE PAIN.

It’s impossible for me to put into words how devastated and disgusted I am by the recent news of the rape at Cornell University. Once again, men’s crimes against women result in nothing more than a slap on the wrist, and we’re expected to be content with that. In what world is writing an essay an appropriate repercussion for a crime of this severity? How is anybody supposed to feel safe when this is what passes as punishment and justice? I feel completely lost for words, and it feels as though the comfort of men like this will always somehow be more important than the safety and autonomy of women, and women’s lives as a whole. I hope that one day everyone affected by crimes such as these will have justice, but at the moment the only things I feel are anger and sadness. by @femicidezine
