“Je est un autre” - Part 1 of some meditations on ego and identity. Arthur Rimbaud’s phrase Je est un autre (“I is another”) refers to the self as not a single, fixed thing, but a mix of hidden and outside forces. He first wrote about this in 1871 to explain that a poet’s job is to let the unknown speak through them rather than just write about their own personal ego. The concept of “I and I” in the Rastafari movement represents oneness, the presence of God within every person, and the rejection of division. It is used instead of words like “me,” “you,” or “we” to show that all people are connected and equal through Jah (God). by @fet.archive
Amid the dust and disorienting sunlight, some wondered if this was all part of the psyop. Others were simply having too much fun to care 🪿💣🚗 by @fet.archive

King Krule’s 2023 album, Space Heavy, has accompanied me on so many flights between TX and CA over the past couple of years. After all the journeys with this collection as my headphone passenger, often times spinning me into as good of sleep as you can expect in coach, I’ve recently had an epiphanous moment from learning the background of it’s creation. The album was written by KK during years of frequent train commutes between London and Liverpool, the two places he calls home, and focuses thematically on the “space between” places, people, and life stages. In that same vein, it explores grappling with change, forced or natural, and “losing people and situations to the guillotine of the universe.” Reading about this felt like it closed a circle. While these themes aren’t always expressly revealed, the spirit in the music indeed shines through and puts you on that same level. Incredible. For me, these songs continue to fill that heavy space between. P.S. this was also one of the best live shows I’ve ever been to when I saw him at Stubbs in Austin in late 2023. by @fet.archive
Eddington, the 2025 movie from Ari Aster, has left a lasting impact on me since I saw it upon release. A period piece set during the covid pandemic, the movie follows a panoramic cast of characters and events within the fictional New Mexico town of Eddington. In a wonderful way, the movie raises more questions than it answers. The tone feels exceptionally real and honest. On the surface, rival sheriff and mayor clash over personal and idealogical conflicts. Somewhere behind the veil, however, a more threatening antagonistic force operates without impediment. Many of the vital themes explored are cleverly masked by the sheer batshit craziness of the third act, but this is where they become all the more urgent. I hope this film can teach us to look beyond the manufactured division we subscribe to, and to more clearly identify the stronger forces affecting us. “The movie is about a data center being built.” And it truly is. by @fet.archive

Bob Dylan and Robbie Robertson working out a half-baked composition called “I Can’t Leave Her Behind” at North British Station Hotel in Glasgow, Scotland circa May 13, 1966. Years later in 1975, Dylan would release “You’re A Big Girl Now,” a song bearing a similar structure and chord progression. I love to see vids like this which show the BTS and work process of artists I treasure. by @fet.archive

“The unwashed phenomenon. The original vagabond” Throughout his enduring career, Bob Dylan has existed in popular culture as an apparition. From the outset, his enigmatic songs placed him on a pedestal, while his reluctance to indulge in fame fueled the mystery. “It’s enough to make anybody sick, really.” Media hostility prompted Dylan to subvert expectations, refusing to be pinned down. An unattainable balance. Born to be an artist. Forced into the spotlight. Dylan went to the crossroads and made a deal, as they say. Nevertheless, each song is a neatly wrapped gift for the listener to find meaning in. Some echo loud and clear. Others are shrouded in mystery. All seek truth. Over the past couple of years Dylan’s songs have been the thread that I keep pulling on. He forces a perspective upon you, which to me, is one of sincerity, dignity, pride, and joy. It strikes a chord and goes deep. It was hard to decide which songs/clips I wanted to include in this post. I ultimately just cherry-picked some of my favorite moments from Dylan’s early-career thru the mid-70’s. Many of these clips are from the incredible Scorsese documentary “No Direction Home” which I can’t recommend enough if you want to learn more about Bob.
