I haven’t owned a record player since I was 18. Until I was sure which continent I’d be inhabiting, there didn’t seem to be any point.

Boyfriends you pick up along the way usually have those so you end up listening on whatever stereos they have. Then streaming took over.

It was fine for a while but lately I realised how utterly shit it is to need a device to listen to music (and no,
I don’t want an Alexa).

I want my kid to get lost in albums. I want to see inlays and sleeves messing up the lounge room floor —you just can’t do that on spottythighs.

That’s how I discovered Pink Floyd and Deep Purple and The Graduate and Sgt Peppers and If Six Were Nine.
On a decent stereo.
No playlists
No algo-bs
I’m excited
I’m picking up my CDs in Paris in a couple of weeks.
Looking forward to getting lost again😎

🩷 I love this album.
As an artist, you love all your albums but I really love this album.
Maybe because there was no plan to make it.

It began when my sister, Nina, told me that her baby, Zephyr, would fall asleep whenever I’d play @nickcaveofficial’s ‘Into my Arms’ during the Covid livestreams.

Having had a baby who didn’t sleep through the night until he was three, I recorded it for her.

I don’t remember why I learnt I Wanna Dance With Somebody — no one asked me to, and I’ve always been more Cyndi than Whitney. But songs have a way of finding you when there’s something more to be said.

I don’t remember when I recorded this vocal either — only that it was one take.
One take and a rudimentary piano part do not an album make…
But genius producer @nicolatescari.music can make Stars ⭐️ from Dirt.
(He is Grammy‑nominated, you know 😉)

The rest of the songs on the upcoming vinyl were recorded for my Patreons. Without them, this album simply wouldn’t exist. One Patreon Saint— Tim — started a boutique vinyl label, @fetchhappenedrecords: now 100 pressings of Cover Stories (limited edition) are coming out in May.🥰

✨The test pressings are already sold out.
✨There are 5 more special bundles with handwritten lyrics and signed photos.

✨Second single from upcoming vinyl, ‘Cover Stories’

I’ve never attempted to record covers, not outside of Nouvelle Vague.
I probably never would have (too daunting) except that I wanted to thank my Patreon supporters for the love they’d shown me over a billion and one livestreams.
Those livestreams were how I ended up finding my way with certain covers.
I wasn’t a Whitney fan and I’m the least romantic person but, stripped of its 80’s popstasnic adornments, there is a sentiment that resonates with every single being on this planet —longing.

Who doesn’t want to know that they are wanted and loved?
