🇧🇷 Following the results of the Brazilian elections last week, Fiker Institute and the Brazilian Center for International Relations (CEBRI) hosted a conversation on what comes next for Brazilian foreign policy, now available to watch in the link in our bio.

The session examined how the incumbent administration is expected to shape Brazil’s foreign policy priorities, from relations with the United States to engagement with Latin America and the Middle East, while weighing continuity against change in Brazil’s traditional approach to mediation and multilateralism.

Dr Marianna Albuquerque, Senior Fellow at CEBRI and Professor at the Institute of International Relations and Defense at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (IRID-UFRJ), joined Dubai Abulhoul, founder of Fiker Institute, for this conversation. by @fikerinstitute

Dr Klaus Dodds reflects on how competition over maritime chokepoints continues to transform the geopolitical landscape and influence the future of international security. by @fikerinstitute

In Fiker Institute’s latest Commentary, Dr Klaus Dodds, Professor of Geopolitics at Middlesex University London, examines how maritime chokepoints, from the Strait of Hormuz to the Arctic’s Bear Gap, have become central arenas of geopolitical contestation, as shifting power dynamics test the security and resilience of the corridors that sustain global trade. He explores how disruptions across these critical waterways, driven by state and non-state actors alike, are reshaping global supply chains, energy markets, and strategic calculations from the Gulf to the Western Hemisphere, and argues that safeguarding them will require deeper defense collaboration, diversified infrastructure, and sustained investment in maritime security capabilities.

🇧🇭 Fiker Institute welcomed Abdulla Alahmed, Chief Executive Officer of the Bahrain Center for Strategic, International and Energy Studies (Derasat), and HE Talal Yousef Fakhro, Consul General of the Kingdom of Bahrain in Dubai.

The meeting provided an opportunity to exchange views on regional developments, the evolving dynamics of the Gulf region, and issues of shared interest among GCC states.

We thank Derasat for their generous gift of published works, which will be a valuable addition to Fiker Institute’s growing collections. by @fikerinstitute

In Fiker Institute’s latest Commentary, Al-Khaleej Fellow Dr Khalid Al-Jufairi examines the shift from crisis diplomacy toward postwar bargaining as negotiations on the Iran War enter a new phase.

Al-Jufairi explores the limitations of a negotiated arrangement centered on reciprocal concessions without credible guarantees against renewed escalation. He argues that Gulf states must move beyond influencing the terms of mediation toward shaping the foundations of a postwar regional security architecture, one that combines US security capabilities with greater Gulf agency and multilateral commitments.
