Did you know you can harvest luffa while it’s still green? 🌱

Young green luffa is edible and commonly called patola in the Philippines 🇵🇭. If you leave it on the vine to fully mature and dry, the inside develops into the natural sponge we know as luffa. 🧽

Here's what I like to do 👇🏻
* 200°F (95°C)
* Bake for 30–60 minutes
* Check every 15–20 minutes.
* Let it cool enough to handle, then crack/score the skin and peel it off.

However, if the luffa is still very green and juicy, baking won’t necessarily make the peel come off easily. For the easiest peeling, let it fully mature and dry on the vine until the skin turns brown and brittle. Then the skin usually comes off much more easily.

If yours are green but already full-sized, I can also give you a faster method to turn them into usable sponges without waiting for them to brown on the plant. by @filipinafarmstead

🥚 Why Consider Buying Eggs From Your Local Neighbor?

You know who raised them.

You can ask what the hens eat.

You can see how the hens are raised.

You know where your food came from.

You’re supporting someone’s passion. 🐔❤️

Most small-scale egg farmers aren’t trying to get rich selling eggs. They’re doing what they love — raising chickens and selling eggs helps cover the cost of feed, bedding, supplies, and care so they can keep their hobby and flock going.

So, thank you for supporting my little hobby and helping me continue doing something that makes me so happy 🐔🥚❤️ by @filipinafarmstead

The vodka proof results are mind blowing 🤯

This is my second year growing garlic and second time using vodka to disinfect the cloves before planting them in the ground. Yes! You read it right, I use vodka.

Do not worry! I dedicate another raised bed for my 70 garlic cloves and planted them the "normal way" 😂 by @filipinafarmstead

Garlic Planting Zone5a WI

🧄 Why soak garlic cloves in vodka before planting?

* Helps reduce surface-borne fungal spores and bacteria.
* May help lower the risk of disease.
* Soak cloves for 10–15 minutes.
* Drain and plant them right away
* Cover with dirt the water them
* Add think layer (4-6 inches) of mulch (straw)

A little extra prep for healthier garlic in your garden! 🌱🤎

Tip: Use plain vodka, not flavored. This is a traditional garden practice, not a guarantee against garlic diseases. by @filipinafarmstead

Molting can be tough on chickens...

because they’re growing a whole new set of feathers. 🐔🤎

That’s why I give mine higher-protein feed during this time. Protein helps them grow strong, healthy new feathers and supports their body while they’re going through the molt.

I also add Roosty’s Flock Armor for extra nutritional support. It helps support feather growth, energy, and overall flock health during this demanding season. 💪🏼🐔

A little extra nutrition can go a long way during molt! ✨ by @filipinafarmstead

Polycarbonate panels are an investment that helps protect your flock from harsh winds, blowing snow, freezing rain, and brutal winter conditions. Your chickens need a dry, protected space to enjoy even when winter hits hard.

It's our 3rd year using them to winterize our chicken run. Our chickens never had issue with frost bites.

⬇️One important thing to remember⬇️

Polycarbonate panels should be used strategically as windbreaks, not to seal the entire chicken run.

* Keep adequate ventilation.
* Avoid trapping moisture and ammonia.
* Leave openings for airflow.
* Secure panels properly against strong winds and snow loads. by @filipinafarmstead
