A little architecture, a little art, and a good excuse to spend an afternoon looking around. I’ve always been drawn to places with a strong sense of identity. The architecture, the collections, the history, the small details that tell you something about where you are. It’s a big part of what interests me about hospitality and travel photography. The best stories don’t begin and end at the property. There’s an entire destination, culture, and history worth exploring. And usually, that’s where the interesting stuff is. #editorialphotography #luxurytravel #travelphotography #visualstorytelling #hospitalityphotography by @filmhouseriley
One of the biggest misconceptions in luxury hospitality marketing is that visual consistency means visual uniformity. A hotel needs polished architectural photography, well-lit room imagery, and clear documentation of its amenities. These are essential assets, particularly when guests are comparing properties and making booking decisions. But those images serve a different purpose than editorial photography. Architectural photography helps guests evaluate a property. Editorial photography helps them understand the experience, the atmosphere, and the personality of the brand. They start imagining themselves within that world. Consider how a hotel might communicate its bar experience. A beautifully composed photograph of a cocktail on a table gives guests a clear understanding of what’s served. An image capturing the lighting, movement, and energy of that same bar communicates something entirely different about the experience. Both are valuable. Neither replaces the other. The opportunity for hospitality marketing teams is to build a visual library that supports different stages of the guest journey, rather than relying on one style of photography across every marketing channel. Luxury hospitality has plenty of room for personality. Experiment with the lighting. Introduce movement. Play with composition. Give people something unexpected. Brand standards should provide creative direction, not become an excuse to play it safe. #hospitalitymarketing #visualstrategy #luxuryhospitality #creativedirection by @filmhouseriley
