Professional Portraits!! A little get to know me? Not just the usual dump? Hi, my name is Chioma Nwankwo (mostly called Chi). I am a PhD Artificial Intelligence researcher, focused at the intersection of AI, Business realities and Customers/Users at the University of Nottingham. My research is based on the use of AI in the workplace solely to make work more productive, boost efficiency and reduce drudgery. I serve as a Research Fellow at the Institute for the Future of Work in London, an institute that studies how new technologies are transforming work and society. I am a product (sometimes program) girl, I am passionate about designing and building technical processes and products. This term, I am doing a bit of teaching, for the module - Artificial Intelligence Methods. Makeup: @robohborke_mua Photo: @aou_studio Two pieces: @bibannibrand by @first.chioma
As an AI Product Designer and PhD-level researcher exploring AI and workplace productivity, I joined the Institute for the future of work at the convening of senior stakeholders across industry, research, policy, and technology to discuss one of the most urgent questions of our time: how can the power of AI be coupled with human capability to transform working lives for good? This was very important to me because I work at the intersection of human behavior, product design, and AI implementation. Excited for what is to come. Hair - @tressesparlour by @first.chioma

A privilege to moderate a conversation on one of the most consequential questions of our time: The Economic Impact of AI at @blacktechfest 2026. Bringing together perspectives from AI research, academia and industry, we explored how AI is reshaping the world of work, from productivity and job displacement to wages, economic inequality and the future of employment. I had the pleasure of being joined by: William Isaac, Principal Scientist at Google DeepMind Professor Damian Grimshaw, Professor of Employment studies at King’s College London Georgia Bennett, Senior Manager at Deloitte Some of the biggest questions we explored were: What are the biggest economic implications of AI that people should look out for? Which workers and industries are most exposed to disruption due to AI effects on jobs and skills? And what would an inclusive AI transition actually look like? As someone researching AI and workplace productivity, these conversations are particularly important to me. Beyond the technology itself, I am interested in understanding how AI changes the way we work, who gets to benefit, and how we can design a future where technological progress translates into meaningful human and economic value. Grateful for the opportunity to facilitate such an important discussion, contribute and learn from such brilliant perspectives. And! Thank you @mariam9426 for being just amazing! I posted about designing AI products as an AI product designer and some people have personally contacted me to ask the difference between a product designer and an AI product designer. Having a career as an AI product designer, you are not just building systems that solve problems, you are building for better human judgment. Sometimes, these models just create their own kind of problems like work-slops or cause cognitive overloading. And adequate research of the AI technologies or models embedded in your product might help. As an example, GenAI and LLMs like chatgpt literally just does word + word = words, and none of those words have meaning except the one given to it by humans. The core of designing AI products is that humans will always be in the loop and make judgments. Now, pay your tuition! by @first.chioma

Still reflecting on a rich discussion at the “Ethics of AI in Workplaces” workshop hosted by the University of Greenwich. In my talk, I explored how AI technologies are being deployed across workplaces and how this reshapes the way we think about “productivity”. A key question I tried to surface is this: productivity is often treated as something objective and measurable, but in practice it is uncertain, contested, and shaped by perspective. What counts as “productive” work for organisations may not align with how workers experience time, effort, autonomy, or value. Grateful to the @uniofgreenwich for hosting an amazing event. Full fit? Birthday 2026 🎂 (another summer solstice). Rounded up this year putting myself and my work out (with minimal hoarding🤣😂😂) - somehow found a balance where I can keep my peace and privacy. Grateful to God for everything and grateful for the new “season” of life. Very grateful to everyone who has loved and poured into me. It is a blessing to be loved by you. Featured as a trailblazer on @stemcrewmag and that’s my birthday photo for this year.❤️ It’s going to be hot this week… bear with me!😂🤣😂 by @first.chioma
