June is a fantastic time to make the most of your polytunnel 🌱☀️

This month is peak growing season in the polytunnel, with an abundance of crops ready to harvest. Aside from a few peas, broad beans, and occasional plants saved for seed, the overwintering crops are gone, making way for the eagerly awaited summer harvests that begin in June.

With longer days and warmer temperatures, your plants can really thrive under protection. A polytunnel helps you extend the growing season, giving you stronger seedlings, healthier crops, and earlier harvests — all while shielding your plants from unpredictable weather.

From tomatoes and cucumbers to salads, herbs, and tender flowers, everything really starts to take off inside your tunnel this month. Just remember to keep good airflow, water regularly, and enjoy the fast growth and abundant harvests June brings.

🌱 Why Polytunnels Are More Popular Than Ever 🌱

From home gardeners to commercial growers, polytunnels are transforming the way people grow food, flowers, and plants all year round. Their popularity keeps rising — and it’s easy to see why.

A polytunnel creates a protected growing environment that shields crops from harsh weather, heavy rain, frost, and strong winds. This means healthier plants, better yields, and far more control over growing conditions.

One of the biggest advantages is the ability to prolong the growing season. With a polytunnel, growers can start planting earlier in spring and continue harvesting well into autumn — and in many cases, even through winter. Warmth is trapped inside the structure, creating a stable climate that helps seeds germinate faster and plants thrive longer.

🍅 Grow summer crops for longer
🥬 Enjoy fresh produce earlier in the year
🌿 Protect delicate plants from frost and pests
🌧 Reduce damage from unpredictable weather
🌞 Create ideal growing conditions year-round

Polytunnels are also incredibly versatile. Whether you’re growing vegetables, herbs, flowers, soft fruit, or even exotic plants, they provide the perfect environment to maximise growth and improve quality.

As weather patterns become more unpredictable and more people look to grow their own food sustainably, it’s no surprise that polytunnels are becoming an essential part of modern gardening and farming.

The future of growing is protected, productive, and thriving under cover. 🌱✨

We were thrilled to receive this wonderful photo from Little Chalfont Primary School as part of their Edible Garden curriculum 🌱

It’s fantastic to see young growers getting hands-on experience and making the most of their First Tunnels setup. Supporting schools to inspire the next generation through growing, sustainability, and outdoor learning is something we’re incredibly proud to be part of.

Keep up the amazing work – we can’t wait to see how your garden grows! 🌼🍓

PLANTING

1000 strawberry plants, tonnes of compost, 5 strawberry varieties, vertical and horizontal growing methods…. It’s an experiment to produce the finest strawberries for our lollies and has been a joy to see the project come together.

Huge thanks as always to Catherine who did all the hard work setting up the troughs and planting the strawberries from @rwwalpole

And to @eastsuffolkcouncil for supporting us with your Rural Business Investment funding. Without this the project wouldn’t be possible.
