Huge thanks to Riverhorse Nakadate for sharing about finding your authentic voice during my class on Communicating Science for Our Modern World. From tapping your creative super powers to pushing yourself outside of your comfort zone, it all matters when advocating for our wild places, wild fishes, and future of our home planet.

Be aware of when, where, and how trout in your home waters spawn. Learn what redds look like so that we aren’t disturbing the future of the population. Head over to my YouTube channel to learn more (link in bio).

Today’s lecture ~ the impacts of dams on fish and aquatic ecosystems (and more).

Fun and informative lecture today in my Fisheries Ecology & Conservation class. Yes, recreational fisheries deserve their own lecture (and even their own course 🧐?).

Amazing discussions and radio tracking golden dorado last weekend in Itati, Argentina, gave me a lot to share about during my lectures this past week. We cannot lose perspective on the importance of fish for our home planet.

||Following the presence of a large concentration of fish, Argentina activated the Shoals Protocol to protect fish arriving along the Upper Paraná River. The measure is also being implemented by the Republic of Paraguay, strengthening joint efforts to conserve this shared natural resource.

The formation of migratory shoals is essential for fish feeding and reproduction, but it also represents a period of increased vulnerability.

The Paraná River crosses borders and connects communities, reminding us that conservation knows no boundaries. Sharing knowledge, experience, and commitment allows conservation to become action.

The Golden Dorado, our emblematic species, is part of our identity, culture, and the history of riverside communities. Protecting it means protecting our rivers and the future of those who live alongside them.

// We were present at the Ecotourism Congress, sharing our vision of sustainable recreational fishing and its importance for the future of golden dorado conservation.

During the presentation, Andrés Martínez and Natalia Silva shared their perspectives and knowledge about the species and the challenges facing the golden dorado in the future.

Talking about the future of this species also means talking about knowledge, commitment, and working together to continue developing concrete actions to protect it.

Because we only protect what we care about, and we only care about what we know.

Grateful for the Boston Globe article featuring how our science on striped bass is informing best practices for catch-and-release (and there are a LOT of stripers being released these days!). Given the status of striped bass stocks, they need all the help they can get, including handling with care. See the link in my bio to learn more.

Ramping up for the fall semester with a new addition to the office that marks my 10 yr anniversary as a Fellow (National) of The Explores Club. My journey over the last 10 years plus has helped me learn about fish, their watersheds, and the people that depend on them. That learning inspires me to share and to help others advocate for the fish they chase, the places they love, and the future of our home planet. Stoked to see what the next 10 years exposes me to and how I can help with my science, my advocacy, and my voice.
