| NEW EXHIBITION Fleur van Dodewaard ー 2025年9月5日（金）ー10月20日（月） 毎週 金ー月 12:00ー18:00   VAGUE KOBE 兵庫県神戸市中央区海岸通9-2 チャータードビル4F — VAGUE KOBE presents ‘BLACK GRASS / LOVE LETTERS’ by Dutch artist Fleur van Dodewaard — an ongoing project that unfolds across geographies. First exhibited at the Kröller-Müller Museum in the Netherlands, the show enters a new phase in Japan, connecting the two homes of VAGUE: Arles and Kobe. The project began during Van Dodewaard’s residency at VAGUE ARLES, where she drew daily for a year — simple, intentional gestures in pencil and ink she calls ‘love letters’. Inspired by the Provençal landscape and Van Gogh’s letters and drawings, her visual language also echoes Japanese art, especially the abstract ink works of Toko Shinoda. In Kobe, these threads are carried forward. As part of the ‘SPRING SCULPTURES’ series, she will collaborate with Kobe City Museum to create new sculptural works using selected tools and fixtures from the museum. This act of reassembling overlooked materials into new forms, is central to her practice. ‘BLACK GRASS / LOVE LETTERS’ becomes a growing body of work — connecting Arles and Kobe through drawing, sculpture, and the deeply human act of reaching across distance. 5 September—20 October 2025 Friday—Monday 12—6pm   VAGUE KOBE 4F Chartered Building, 9—2 Kaigandori, Chuo-ku, Kobe 6500024, Japan Supported by the Mondriaan Fund Image: The Scent of Cypresses (Love Letter #11), Fleur van Dodewaard, 2024, colour pencil on paper, 34 x 30 cm. by @fleurvandodewaard

SONAR by Sawada / van Dodewaard These two works are on show now at the group-exhibition ‘DUET - NEDERLAND + JAPAN’ in the museum Vincent Van Gogh Huis in Zundert - Vincent’s place of birth. The wall sculptures, both including a black&white photograph, are part of a collaborative project between Japanese photographer Ikuhisa Sawada and me. The project is called SONAR - after the biological echolocation system of bats 🦇. It is something that resembles our process, pingpong-ing ideas and images between our studios in Amsterdam and Tokio on opposite sides of the earth. But - what you see here is only the beginning. There will be more to come in Tokio soonnnnn.💥 Thank you Iku, so happy to work with you 🙏🏻❣️ PS. These photographs are taken in my studio.
