📸 WINTER FLIP CALL OUT: The DÉRIVE Issue 📸 “The camera makes everyone a tourist in other people’s reality, and eventually in one’s own.” — Susan Sontag In her iconic book ’On Photography’, Susan Sontag saw the flâneur as a spectator navigating modern life. Charles Baudelaire once likened this observer to a ‘kaleidoscope gifted with consciousness’, constantly responding to ‘the multiplicity of life’ around them. This brings us to dérive (French for drift), a core practice of psychogeography - the study of how our geographical environment impacts human emotions and behaviour. As lens-based artists, we engage in dérive more often than we realise. Every time you pause on your journey to make an image, you are responding to the world around you. Whether you’re intentionally exploring a space or aimlessly wandering through urban streets or rural paths, you let the environment guide what you feel and what you capture. What draws your eye when you drift through your environment? How do your surroundings make you feel? How do you respond through your lens? FLIP is excited to discover your work for our Winter issue! DEADLINE: Friday, 16th October 2026 📩 Submit your images and show us where your drift takes you. Image submissions for the next issue of FLIP are now open! 📸 Words, just like images, are suffused with innate power, agency and meaning, and few words in modern English language use are as charged as the word 'queer'. Collins English Dictionary lists no less than 10 different definitions of the word in British English use, from adjectives meaning odd, eccentric and strange to nouns meaning people whose identity differs from normative concepts about sexuality and gender. Although some may still find it offensive, queer is widely recognised as an umbrella term for the full spectrum of non-conforming identities within LGBTQIA+ acronym. But what does 'queer' mean to you in photography? Are you drawn to documenting our strange world, with its countless paradoxes and stark incongruities? Maybe you take delight in capturing the eccentric and the camp? Perhaps you seek to examine the complexities of gender identity, or simply want to celebrate difference and non-conformity? Or maybe your images focus on the subtlety and nuance you notice in the strangeness of our everyday? FLIP are excited to discover what images you and LIP members will submit to the Summer issue 🎉 We especially welcome submissions from those of you who seldom send work in, please don’t be a stranger! 💎 Deadline closes on Friday 5th June 2026, check out link in our bio to submit 🔗 #FLIPmag #LIP #photographymagazine #LondonIndependentPhotography #queer by @flipmaglondon

🥁 SAVE THE DATE! 🥁 We are delighted that the award-winning photographer and filmmaker Rod Morris @roadfactoryfilms will deliver a talk at this year’s LIP @london_independent_photography AGM on Saturday 21st March 2026! 🥳 Through his photography and filmmaking Rod explores the space between stillness and motion, where images hold stories that reach beyond the frame. His work reflects on time, presence, and memory, often blurring the line between photography and cinema. He’s collaborated with a host of clients including the BBC, Greenpeace, Oxfam, and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, creating projects that celebrate art, people, and place. He is the visionary director of ‘The Photo-Diaries of Mick Williamson’ (2022), which documents Mick Williamson’s @mickwilliamsonphoto ongoing photographic practice he established since the 1970s involving the daily use of a small, half-frame analogue camera. In January, Rod featured in @guardian’s ‘My Best Shot’ column by @chrisdbroughton about photographers revealing the fascinating stories behind their favourite work, in which Rod reflected about the time he spent in South America in 1990s and the beating he took from Bolivian police for documenting the events in La Paz during a presidential election. Please note, LIP members event only but you are very welcome to attend if you join LIP! 👏 Visit LIP @london_independent_photography website to sign up today! ✍️ Drinks and buffet will be provided 🍰 #LIP #FLIP #londonindependentphotography #rodmorris #photojournalism by @flipmaglondon
I'm very pleased that this photo of mine, taken in 2025 of a passenger arriving Gerona railway station, was also chosen for the current edition of @flipmaglondon's magazine, published in January 2026. The theme was 'Elsewhere' and this was one of my two images in that edition. Many thanks to all the volunteers at @flipmaglondon @london_independent_photography for curating and publishing this latest issue. #londonindependentphotographymember #londonindependentphotography #elsewhere #saulleiterinspired by @flipmaglondon

FLIP are delighted to introduce Jonathan Taylor @jetola, one of our FLIP Student Competition judges! 🎉 Jonathan’s interest in photography began when he was a teenager, developing and printing his own work in the blacked-out bathroom ⚡ He has used a camera all his working life to research locations and archive his designs for TV productions. It was the research for one such drama, set in Afghanistan, that led him to discover documentary photographers such as Steve McCurry @stevemccurryofficial and Didier Lefèvre that fired the desire to take photography more seriously 👁️‍🗨️ Over the last decade, Jonathan has developed an interest in urban and documentary work using both digital and film cameras and participating in various projects, including @rpslondon ‘Bleeding London’ – a city-wide project whose goal was to collect at least one photograph of every street in the London A-Z and which culminated in a 2015 London City Hall exhibition curated by Jonathan and the Bleeding Londoners featuring 1,200 images 📸 Jonathan has curated and designed exhibitions and zines for a host of photographers, as well as group exhibitions for @london_independent_photography and @royalphotographicsociety 👁️‍🗨️ He is an active member of @london_independent_photography and has been FLIP designer for the last six years 🔥 #LIP #flipmagazine #flipstudentcompetition #studentcompetition #photocompetition #photoopencall #opencall #competition #emergingtalent #photographymagazine #analogue #digital #shotoniphone #photographyeveryday #photographysouls #FLIP #Jetola by @flipmaglondon
