🗣️WE’RE FEATURED ON @SOUTHSIDEWEEKLY’S BEST OF THE SOUTH SIDE 2024‼️ 💐 “Florecer has been a beacon of love and care for Black, Brown, and queer youth since its creation in 2020. Its collective organizing efforts have begun to bridge historical gaps created by those before us. It may take a lot to heal these wounds completely but Florecer has taken the initiative to create space for healing to begin.” 📝: Jimmy Rodgers 👉🏼Best of the South Side (BoSS) is a year-round showcase of the people, places, events, businesses, and oddities on Chicago’s South Side! 🫶🏼 It’s an opportunity for community members from all over the South Side to capture who and what makes the South Side special for them. ✨ by @florecer_chi
🌸 CSPR is blossoming into Florecer! 🌸 We were founded as Chi Student Pandemic Response, fighting for educational equity during the pandemic. During 2020’s uprising protests, we rallied students against racial injustice and provided families with mutual aid support. In the face of evolving community needs, we shifted our focus to transform underutilized spaces into vibrant hubs through community cookouts and mutual aid, recognizing the need for wellness and community building within Chicago’s Southwest side neighborhoods. Who we are & what we do: 🌱Grassroots, queer-led mutual aid on Chicago’s Southwest side. 🌀Violence prevention from a holistic lens. ✊🏽Empowering SW side youth & families to become stewards of their communities through art, direct action, and community building. Stay tuned to see how florecer is blooming! 💓🌸 by @florecer_chi
🌱Thanks to everyone that has helped to make these community events possible!🌱 Our youth deserve the resources and spaces that let them experience Black and brown joy. ☀️ It is crucial for us to reimagine what safety in our communities can look like. We need to divest from CPD’s $1.8 billion and distribute those funds towards non-carceral resources.🗣 If you’d like to continue supporting our work this summer: 🌞Venmo: @CSPR2021 🌞Cashapp: $CSPR2021 🚨DM us if you’d like to donate any books, toys, school supplies or clothing items! A huge thank you to Luisa for leading such a creative and meaningful activity with our Guardianes del Jardín Mágico group! 🌿🦜 We loved learning about the importance of recycling and reusing to limit waste, and the bird feeder activity was the perfect hands-on experience. 🌱 From creating bird feeders with native seeds to discussing ways to repurpose items, it was both fun and educational. 💚 We’re making the world a little greener one child at a time! 🌳 by @florecer_chi

🎨Our community dinner at @18casadecultura was a powerful act of resistance, creating a space where youth could reconnect with each other through culture, art, mutual aid and ceremony. 🎨✨ As we shared a meal, screen-printed with artist @ramiro_arte_ , enjoyed live DJ music with @sheybaedj, and witnessed the sacred dance of @grupo_folkloricovenado , we honored our collective history and the resilience of indigenous peoples.🤍 We chose to reimagine our gathering during these times as a moment of reflection, resistance, and reciprocal care for each other. 🫂✨Shoutout @hopesthriftpulaski for providing FREE winter gear for our youth! by @florecer_chi
